Product Description from Amazon
  • A flawless pairing of form and function that doesn't quit, the Lodge Dutch Oven is an enameled cast iron classic that's great for preparing and serving memorable meals.
  • WHAT IS PORCELAIN ENAMEL ON CAST IRON? It is actually glass that becomes bonded to the cast iron at high temperatures. A particulate of glass, called frit, is applied to the cast iron vessel and then baked at temperatures between 1200 and 1400° F. The glass frit melts and fuses to the cast iron, forming a bond. Porcelain enamel on cast iron is heat tolerant and impervious to water and other consumables.
  • MAKE EVERY MEAL A MEMORY. Lodge knows that cooking is about more than just the food; it's about the memories.
  • FAMILY-OWNED. Lodge is more than just a business; it's a family. The Lodge family founded the company in 1896, and they still own it today. From environmental responsibility to community development, their heads and hearts are rooted in America. All Lodge seasoned cast iron and carbon steel cookware is proudly made in the USA, meaning you'll get craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations. Lodge Enameled Iron products are made in China to strict metallurgical and casting specifications.

Cool. I was looking at one of these at Ollie's but it was Cuisinart and not made here. For $10 more glad to get the Lodge brand.

Just note that Lodge does not make this Dutch oven in the USA. They do have a more expensive USA line of Dutch ovens.

Are...are you me?

I was literally comparing the cuisinart at ollies vs this earlier today. Im going with the cuisinart though, for a few reasons:

- Made in China (lodge) vs made in Vietnam (cuisinart). I'm going to call that a wash

- 7.5qt (lodge) vs 9qt ( cuisinart). If you are going this big, might as well go all the way

- $55 (lodge) vs $40 (cuisinart)

So the cuisinart is 20% bigger, for 15% less money, and comparable quality. I kind of like the red for the lodge, but not enough to override the numbers.

Thanks for pointing that out. I could have sworn the Amazon reviews said this was made in the USA. I literally won't keep it because of this. Oh well.

Man....I didn't know it wasn't made here. I just thought it was a staple of Lodge. Oh well. I guess it will go back. Maybe I will go to Ollies and give that one another look. The other post said Lodge has a more expensive one made stateside. I'll have to check that one out.

Yeah, the US one can be ordered directly from their site. Crazy expensive - $350 - though, for this size. I would personally look at le cruset at that range.

Pretty hard to tell the difference between the two. Rings on the lid? These things are so heavy, makes me wonder how they ended up producing these in China to begin with. Unless they're just slapping their name on some other company's product to grow their line.

Honestly, I don't think there IS a difference between the two. The very first thing that the US version says is that is made in America with imported materials. So it's the same iron, same enamel, just in a different cast.

The weights are even the same: 17.71lbs (US) vs. 17.73lbs, less than half an ounce. Maybe from the different know.

Just doesn't seem like it's worth 7x the price. The warranty is even the same...lol

Wonder why imported materials. You'd think the cast iron and glass would all be available here. I cancelled mine from Amazon. I couldn't have this one with my other Lodge...Big Grin
