I bought this tablet on Aliexpress a month ago for $220 (its called a Xiaoxin pad pro 2025 there). Its been an amazing tablet. its kinda big but plays games really well the GPU in it is very powerful. the dimensity 8300 is the MediaTek equivalent of snapdragon 8 gen 1 for those wondering. So think older flagship performance.

That's a huge YMMV, and a big range from 350 to 500.. You can get a decent laptop for 500 which is why Samsung tablets have been suffering, they have no true competition to iPad, their A line is mediocre at best and their S is too pricey. This is why people look at Lenovo tablets, but still there is almost always something that eventually will act up because you got Google, Lenovo (Motorola), and maybe few other vendors involved in making the tablet that something goes haywire over time.
Got my S9 from facebookmarketplace for $400 LAST YEAR and it is the 256GB version. But I use my iplay60 mini turbo for convenience.

They are talking about the Chinese release model of this tablet which comes with Chinese ROM and greatly differs from the Global Firmware.
The biggest issue with buying a Chinese model updated with a Global ROM is that the package has been opened and the device has been "Hacked". The AliExpress sites state that plainly, that it is not for everyone. Also, you are on your own concerning any updates. Getting the Google Play Store on the Chinese version of this tablet is pretty easy. As is English. Removing the Chinese apps you don't want should also be fairly simple. No one says you have to run ZU16 (the Android Skin) either.

FYI, it is slightly cheaper on EPP site at $287.99.

Hi, what's the site? Is that like an employee purchase program via an employer? Thanks

Yes, you can access it through your employer's perks portal. Mine is Working Advantage.

i can but the seller no longer ships to US so there is no point when i go to my orders it now says "this item cant be delivered to your address" this was all pre tariff stuff no doubt that played a role. Not to mention it is CN rom version but does allow play store. You are much better off just getting this directly from Lenovo at this point yes its $70 more than I paid but you dont have to worry about flashing global rom and every other available listing on AliExpress that ships the xiaoxin pad pro 2025 to US is the same price as this.
Thank you for your reply. I'm actually not in US at the moment. So the link would still help me just for reference if nothing else. But I would prefer the Global ROM, as I don't want to waste time with flashing. Smilie

Basically impossible for device like this with locked bootloader.

Even with unlocked bootloader, it's a huge pain just for getting drivers itself. (Look at Macs with Apple Silicon chip for example)

The best you could do is probably try to marry some distro's userspace in a chroot jail with stock kernel. Of course that means limited access to low level hardware resources, and also performance penalty from native android stuffs running at all time.

How well does the pen work?

Does it include any pre-installed app to take a PDF and write on it with the stylus?

Samsung tablets used to come with a Samsung app "Write on PDF" which was the closest I've found to being able to open a PDF and write on it like it is a piece of paper. But the app seems deprecated on the latest Samsung tablets and I have not found any other apps that are as good at this basic function.

I looked into this. Other than what is stated below, what's the difference between the CN version ($232-$327, 8gb-16gb RAM, 256Gb-1TB, keyboard & pen not included) and the global version ($527+$37 shipping, 12gb RAM, 256gb, include keyboard and pen)? The seller of the CN doesn't seems legit. Did you purchase from this seller?
EDIT: CN ROM is the version to go with per reddit and a post here. However, this tablet is going for between $500 to $700 from legit seller on Ali and eBay.

Not exactly...
When there is an OFFICAL Global ROM then you get an unopened package.
It is NOT recommended that you buy a global ROM anything UNLESS it is OFFICIAL.
It is recommended that you do buy the CHINESE ROM (comes in English and Chinese). There is a really good Reddit page that disuses Chinese ROM VS Global ROM.
ALSO, Don't expect any updates if you buy a "cheap" tablet such as a tablet from Telcast or Alldocube or Headwolf. By the way, I love these CHEAP tablets... zero bloatware and it just works, just don't do any banking or purchasing on it.
But if you are buying a high end model I am sure you will get appropriate updates.

it pisses me off when I see the price difference. I also have purchased tablets from Ali and JD.com.

You are confused....
Unless it is 100% OFFICIAL, the general rule of thumb is NEVER buy GLOBAL ROM.
It means the tablet was opened, hacked... and a new OS could have been installed... one that will most likely NEVER receive any update and it is possible spyware was installed.
CHINESE ROM comes in two languages one of them is English. You get to remove most apps and hopefully very little bloatware will remain. This is what is recommended.
Google... "REDDIT Global ROM VS Chinese ROM"
