Yeah this is the bog standard >30 year old take, but there's still something endearing about the movie theater experience. The popcorn smell, the (albeit so overpriced) popcorn itself, the nostalgia of a movie date, and awesome video and sound even my home theater can't really compete with.

If you have an Emagine theater nearby and don't mind going on Tuesdays, they do $5 + $1.50 fees standard tickets (which we prefer the standard screens to their premium screens) and free small popcorn (which I usually upgrade for about $1-2) with a free loyalty account. If you're doing two people you can technically get two small popcorns (one per account). Two tickets, two popcorns, and two medium/large drinks will run you close to $30, and Emagine theaters tend to be really nice.
We tend to go once every month or two for horror movies and it's hard to beat.

So Costco has a deal for AMC - 2 tickets and a $20 gift card for $35. I suppose you can get soda/drinks/candy with the gc
