While it may be better price compared other places, this seems still very much overpriced what it is. You can get Ubiquiti 2.5gbe switch which is a managed switch offering vlans, port mirroring and POE input as well for 49.99. that's a much better switch for the price than this one. You can also use that switch without controller as an unmanaged switch if you prefer to do so.

FYI for those not familiar with the Ubiquiti Flex Mini 2.5G, the PoE is input only. It doesn't output PoE.

Although I'm not familiar with this exact model, the pricing, metal housing, small size, reputable brand, and great seller... makes this an interesting snag at this price point.

EDIT:
The cons are also there. This product is a "unique SKU" with little info. closest matching product is TL-SG105S-M2, which also has very little reviews.
BUT, what's REALLY disappointing is the TP-link warranty program. general info on it his like finding a need on a haystack.. but after some deep diving, this product should be a 3 year warranty. --->> VS TRENDnet switches that have lifetime warranties.
the $40 price tag of this product is crazy good, but for $60, you can get an easy-to-find info like this product:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr..._2_5g.html

or this one with the same 5x 2.5G ports AND an 10G SFP+ port:

I would avoid TP-Link simply for this alone.

Your links actually support CappuccinoMan's point. They all echo the same speculation that the U.S. is considering a ban. But if you read past the headlines, it's clear the concern is largely politically motivated. Many of us run stateful packet inspection firewalls at the edge, and if TP-Link had implemented real backdoors, a credible source or independent researcher would have flagged it by now. Repeating unsubstantiated claims doesn't make them fact.

Last year called, and said you are out of date, lolol. Continue on with your fake news, but you clearly missed the whole starting a new global parent company news, moving it to Cali, and also joining CISA....

So parrot away useless information, that as pointed out is nothing but politically driven and lobbyist driven by other manufactures so they dont have to compete against TP-Link on price. There is a reason all the other major manufactures are getting killed when TP-Link gear out performs them at a discount MSRP rate.

Can someone with this model report on if ALL ports have to be running 2.5G to get that speed? Some similar products, either in the description or user reviews, are noted for falling back to gig speed if ANY port is that.

A router is not the same thing as a switch.

Nope, because:
1. Unmanaged
2. Chinese

I got in MC 2x Managed 2.5G switches with $25 coupon off (filler $2 printer paper).

So not only do you not understand how switches work, you don't understand supply chains either.

For starters, switches are inherently layer 2 devices, meaning they don't route packets. When you start getting into managed switches, they are sometimes called layer 2+ devices. Meaning they may have some ability to emulate features found on a router, aside from the actual routing (and no, VLANs don't count because they aren't routed).

Between a managed and unmanaged switch, the former is far more likely to have a backdoor/exploit because of the added sophistication of the firmware. But it still won't route and thus can't be exploited the same way you'd exploit a router.

As for being "Chinese", where do you think the components in all these (largely imaginary) US based companies come from?

It doesn't take much to have another Spectre/Meltdown. Which, by the way, was entirely homegrown.
