There is supposedly a QLC variant of this drive.



It's unlikely to make a meaningful difference.



This is a low end brand. It's nowhere near the same tier as Samsung or Crucial.



The pSLC cache helps write speeds. DRAM stores a copy of the mapping table (FTL). It is most helpful for random reads. That said, it's unlikely to make a meaningful difference to most users.

No. I've had a DRAM-less SSD in my PS5 for a couple years. There is no difference between it and the stock SSD. Zero issues. DRAM is helpful for writing, but it won't affect reading the game.

To be clear, are you implying that you trust any drive to not lose your data? Because I'm pretty sure that is a bad mindset. Any data you want to protect should be backed up. Ideally 2 or more times to give 3+ copies of your data. Assuming these Orico drives are not horrific, I think you're safer to spend $300 on 3 of these than 2 of the WD Black 850X.

All that being said, I'm NOT knocking your choice to spend $30 or $50 for a drive you suspect to be more reliable. Your time is valuable, as is the piece of mind that comes with buying equipment that is less likely break. So this isn't an argument for or against this deal. I just wanted to clarify for everyone that when it comes to safeguarding data, it starts with planning and redundancy.

Makes sense, aside from Downloads folder. I found separating that folder was more effort than it's worth - used to have it stored on the stock HDD when I bought my first SATA SSD in my desktop way back when, was trying to save as much space as possible. Cant remember why, but I had frequent issues. But 2TB is a standard size for those cloud services, so I guess I get that. And Steam makes sense - losing downloads is zero risk.

That said, no buyer's remorse on my WD Black card, even though it will be backed up to the cloud. I'd rather not risk losing access to important files stored there, or losing files that hadn't uploaded. Slightly different use case, it'll be a Mac Mini external enclosure.

Yeah, I'd rather not deal with the headache. Saving $50 isn't important when dealing with my most important files. I'd rather lower risk to the lowest level possible by buying a drive with a high TBW rating and a long warranty from a company that I trust. Plus, I get a better, faster drive with DRAM this way.

I think it's more about announcing what you're getting for your $. It's a fairly fast drive otherwise, and many are new to all of this. I'm perfectly OK with these comments being dropped on every high spec SSD, saves me a bit of time searching for specs on unfamiliar brands.

anyone know what the TBW rating is on this thing? How does it compare to similar drives? I don't expect crucial/Micron or samsung levels but there still should be a comparable TBW on this to others?

Every bit is backed up, when I use drives like this they are mirrored with free file sync.

It's in the first post and on the Amazon page. It's 1200TB. Remember, the TBW number is mainly for warranty purposes. It's not a good indicator of drive quality.
