If I were you guys, I would stay the F away from Miniforums refurbs. The last order I had, they sent me a filthy computer that was sticky all over, the computer kept on crashing and giving me BSOD. Took many weeks to return it and had to file a dispute with credit card company to get paid as they waited over a week since they received it and still didn't refund me, which is why I had to get the credit card company involved. Honestly, its just not worth the trouble. Got me instead a mac mini m4 for $450 from Microcenter and the thing has been flawless. Miniforums is a trash company to deal with, either buy it direct from Amazon or get another brand.

I have Proxmox home servers based off the NAD9 at both of my places and they've been operating continuously for 1.5 years with no issues.

These are super silent, seem unusually reliable given the other problems people have reported with Minisforum hardware, and have great compatibility with Proxmox and Plex transcoding.

One caveat I will point out is that it's configured for a TDP of 45W so you're not going to get the screaming performance of a mobile Core i9, which often times in gaming laptops is allowed to boost up to 100W. But in exchange, it will be basically completely silent, you can't hear fan noise even under full load. If you know what you're doing, you can adjust the TDP and the fan curve in the BIOS to get it to run faster.

The second one I got was a refurb and other than missing the stand and its screws, it looked basically brand new and seems just as reliable.
PL2 is 95 watts, PL1 is 45

For anyone wondering, this is 12th gen, and the instability issues with Intel are from the 13th and 14th gen of chips. So this should be good. Seems like a powerful system for the price honestly. Wish I could remember what I did with my wife's old laptop ram, when we upgraded her system from 16 to 32. Would make this system basically perfect along with a 512 GB SSD for like 25-30 bucks. Crazy amount of power for less than $300.
That issue was only in Desktop chips, not in Mobile chips from any generation, even the 13th and 14th Gen (Raptor Lake, Raptor Lake Refresh). Mobile chips use a different chiplet layout than Desktop counterparts and has far restricted and mostly locked Voltage and current curves, which was responsible for the issue in the desktop chips. As of now, there is not a single reported issue with Intel 13th and 14th Gen Mobile Processors.

I've received multiple refurbs and they're fine and had all accessories. The packaging is crap and generic, and you can tell the are used, but never anything sticky.

Can someone take the W11 license and reuse it on a VM running on Proxmox or is it locked to the drive?

Just make sure you've got laptop memory (SODIMM) and not full-size desktop memory sticks.

Nvidia charges a ton for royalty fees, which Minisforum would ultimately have to pass down to the consumer, which would severely impact sales. I only see corporate type mini PCs using the MXM, like the advantech chassis. What IS surprising though is no thunderbolt on any of the USB-C ports, like the other poster mentioned, I think they would have had a lot more sales for being able to support high speed external devices and eGPUs.
Yeah, both of these things are weird. I can appreciate that they didn't know MXM was dead on arrival for cheap consumer machines, but it's really weird no TB or USB4 considering it was the highest end Intel mobile processor at the time. There so much wasted space now and yet the RAM is SODIMM and a bit tight to get to.

You may have been lucky and all works.
I usually judge a company by how they handle problems, if they try to ignore it or make you jump through unnecessary hoops.
Good luck.

I'm going to ask something real stupid but I've been away from the pc world for a long time. What's the case use for something like this? Practicality. Really don't know what's in and not. I know it's not meant to be a monster to play high end things, but why are these built?

Maybe someone will correct me, but this looks like a powerful enough unit to be a "desktop" computer. I am looking at it to replace my aging Lenovo laptop that won't support Windows 11. I think for internet browsing, Word, Excel, and Adobe PDF manipulation, this would be more than adequate.

I have one and this is an excellent, basically silent, and very powerful desktop computer for basically everything except serious AAA gaming.

The most vocal computer contingent of Slickdeals seem to be mostly four categories- hardcore gamers, people running generative AI at home, people editing 4K video, or people running home labs, and they comment with these perspectives in mind.

That's good advice that Chinese PCs like this should be bought from Amazon or Walmart for easy returns when needed.

I ended up getting a NAB9 - it was about 50 bucks cheaper with same cpu, and dual Ethernet.
