The thing that bugs me the most is it's not even purpose built "well".

It doesn't directly connect to the PS5 console while at home to guarantee a stutter free high resolution feed video (ex: Wii U gamepad did it 10 years ago, no wifi required) and instead relies on your home wifi network which can be bad/flaky regardless of your ISP or even router. With PLENTY of online complaints from users wasting countless hours unable to get a smooth streaming experience.
It doesn't have WiFi 6 which is wild for a dedicated streaming device.
It's streaming quality is no better than if you used your phone or laptop. In fact, Portal quality is often worse if you use Chiaki on mobile/PC. (I don't understand how some internet randos know networking and decoding better than Sony)
At $130 though? I think it's definitely worth a shot to see how quality is on your home network. Albeit I'm shocked how many owners gloss over these issues.
Yeah but that would tie up the phone / laptop / tablet and use their battery. And you have to putz around with controller pairing. And bringing two things with you.

I get what you're saying but this is more purpose built vs your solution.
I love mine. Bad info from people who know nothing about it. You are getting a full PS5 controller with feedback, rumble, ext. Stream your console anywhere with good wifi (best at home of course), no ps+ needed. Stream games with ps+ from cloud (no ps5 needed). No need for phone attachments and eating phone batteries. For $200, it has resulted in more gameplay for me, and overall statistics provided by Sony support this as well.

I just picked up mine, luckily I opted for store pickup instead of delivery. Although I ordered an excellent condition, while opening the box in front of the Best Buy employee we both agreed that it wasn't even in fair condition. So they let me to pick another one. Which was in excellent condition.
Just make sure that you check before it's too late.

Where are these located? In a cage or next to the pick up area. I wanted to do the same thing

Sounds like a mixed bag. I pick this up tonight. My thoughts... I am also on deco mesh. 1) force portal to 5g band only - better? 2) force portal to connect to ONE deco puck only - vs hopping around - better? 3) set priority on the PS5 - or on the Portal? Better? ---- Theae are all things I plan on experimenting with this evening if performance bites like many have reported. You may have tried a bunch of items all ready - just sharing my thoughts. Good luck!

All of the above can be done via the Deco app... not in portal settings.
Good luck. I did try the 5g band a month ago and it wasn't better, but I have not tried the QOS settings yet as I feel I shouldn't have to honestly. My basement only has 1 item that isn't hardwired (treadmill) w/the rest being dependent on wake.

I may though bind the portal to the basement deco to see if that potentially helps as it would be silly as hell if my Portal is for example connecting to my 2nd level deco vs the basement one when I'm literally in the basement. I do now wonder about that...

Just got my excellent condition one.
So this just brings the portal and a black usbc cable? No box to connect the cable?

Mine looks good, have to wipe down the screen

Battery was completely drained

I have one of these, and my thoughts:

Most games I play on PS5.. I would much rather play on a big-screen OLED TV with a nice sound system and a controller, not sitting on the couch with a 7" handheld screen. With that said, I do find it useful for stuff and can recommend it if you have the extra money.

You need a good network. Hard-wire your PS5, put your portal on 5GHz if you can. If your 'playing area' (portal) is going to be too far away from your portal, the experience will suck. My PS5 + Router + Portal are generally going to be in the same room about 10-15 feet apart from eachother. I use mine at my desk for little 'grinding' tasks while I'm working at the computer, and love it. It lets me catch fish in Stellar blade (which I hate) without having to sit in front of the TV for 2 hours.. I sit at my desk, do whatever I'm doing and then go back to the portal every minute or so to start fishing again between stuff I'm doing. It's good for small games, stuff where graphics don't matter as much. I don't want to play Uncharted 8 or Horizon 3 on this thing, I'd rather play those on the big screen.

Lag/Input issues for me are zero. It works great, looks great, no problem. Except for HDR - it doesn't support HDR and if your PS5 outputs HDR it will look ugly on the portal, so you sometimes have to turn it off (or make sure the PS5 isn't trying to connect to your TV and get a HDR connection, because it will ruin the look on the portal)

Sound is good, battery is good, the controllers are good.. except that stupid touch pad. Any games that require touch pad will be a horrible experience on the portal. Stellar Blade? Absolutely hated using the touchpad on the portal because it would never work.

Headphones? Doesn't work with bluetooth. It will take the Pulse Elite headphones, otherwise you're stuck with wired.

Screen is nice, everything else is fine. If you have the PS+ tier with the game streaming? also awesome -- no PS5 required, just pick it up and go.

If you are planning to take this to work, camping, etc.. or anywhere else, it will all rely on your internet connection. It will not play games locally, there is no storage, everything needs to be streamed via wifi signal. It's not a "play in the car" while your mom drives you to school or a play at work thing unless you have a good internet connection.

I didn't care to play it outside of the house, so it wasn't an issue for me. I just want to play it in bed, on the couch, or at my desk when I'm doing other stuff to get past parts in games so I can enjoy the 'meat and potatoes' on the big screen instead of grinding for coins/costumes/whatever else

FPS latency even with perfect network is still butt.

I had $25 in BB rewards that were expiring, so this is a good use for them. Brought it down to $118. I work from home and sometimes don't want my wife to realize I'm playing video games instead of working. Much easier to just set this aside than to set aside a PS5 remote and power off the tv without her catching me.
I think you may be on to something there Smilie

ehhh I'll try one we'll see what happens. I have so many things on my PS5 that I'm not playing due to screen time conflicts, maybe this will help. If not... return, or sell it.

This might scratch my "mobile gaming" itch without dropping $$$ on a Steamdeck or Legion handheld...

New to game here. I don't own Xbox and PS5. Does this portal require separate Play station machine? Can I bring this portal outside of the country? Do I need to pay some Sony subscription fees to play the games? Will repped!

1. Connect your ps5 to WIRED Ethernet network. Then use the ps portal to Remote Play, & control a ps5 from remote locations with strong WiFi. Buying PS Plus subscription service is optional, not mandatory, using this method. Build & purchase your own library of games.

2. When buying Sony's subscription service "PS plus highest tier PREMIUM", the ps portal is used to play the ps plus cloud gaming Premium Library. Buying a PS5 is optional, not mandatory, using this method.

Picked mine up today. The smudged screen was a red flag - but it wiped clean - and everything seems to be mint.

Level set your expectations.

Games you have many many MANY hours into are going to feel just a bit floaty. COD warzone... for example. Can you play it? Sure. Everything just feels a bit loose...

However - I didn't get this for competitive online multiplayer. I got this to play the 500+ back catalog of single player games I have from having a PS4, and PS5 - purchasing some games - but also having a massive collection PSPLUS monthly free games from 2 generations. This - is one amazing use case for me. I just played 2 hours of streets of rage 4. Very little perceived lag. Other story driven games - GTA, RedDead... Games I have barely touched... suddenly are portable inside my house. For this - bravo! I let my kid play Minecraft on it for a few minutes. He said "it's just so smooth compared to his switch". Very sharp also. I know - switch 2 will even the field a bit. But I don't feel like fighting pre-orders and scalpers... and the launch price is a turn off honestly.

Imo - $135 - give it a shot. Keep your expectations in check - and you will be stunned.

My ps5 is in my basement, on a projector. I love it down there - but - this enables me to play anywhere in my house vs cold dark lonely basement. I really am impressed... $199 - maybe I would feel slightly meh? $135?!? - Epic.

I picked mines up earlier today with an accumulated amount of BB rewards, got it down to $115 out the door. Picked up an excellent condition one and got a basically brand new unit with 75% charge. Screen protector hadnt even been peeled. I have gb fiber internet, ps5 on 5ghz band as well as the portal and this thing runs smooth! I play Hogwarts legacy and GT7 mainly on it and I have no complaints! I didnt think I would like this thing and was on the fence like everyone else and saw this as useless, but having my kid play her switch on tv and sitting next to her on a portal, worth it!

This is the worst handheld gaming device I have ever bought. The idea of being able to play your game "anywhere in the world" is a delusion. If your internet sucks or have no internet at all, you're SOL. Useless POS. I regret buying it.

I picked one up in "excellent" condition, and when I got home no USB cable, but the device looks good. CS only offered a return.

Just got mine. I opted for shipping and excellent condition. This thing is very clearly not excellent condition and has a large gouge on the back presumably from being dropped. The packaging looked like wild animals opened it originally. It was scotch taped back together. Now I have to decide whether to complain about it or just chalk it up to a risk that didn't go my way.
