The thing that bugs me the most is it's not even purpose built "well".

It doesn't directly connect to the PS5 console while at home to guarantee a stutter free high resolution feed video (ex: Wii U gamepad did it 10 years ago, no wifi required) and instead relies on your home wifi network which can be bad/flaky regardless of your ISP or even router. With PLENTY of online complaints from users wasting countless hours unable to get a smooth streaming experience.
It doesn't have WiFi 6 which is wild for a dedicated streaming device.
It's streaming quality is no better than if you used your phone or laptop. In fact, Portal quality is often worse if you use Chiaki on mobile/PC. (I don't understand how some internet randos know networking and decoding better than Sony)
At $130 though? I think it's definitely worth a shot to see how quality is on your home network. Albeit I'm shocked how many owners gloss over these issues.
Yeah but that would tie up the phone / laptop / tablet and use their battery. And you have to putz around with controller pairing. And bringing two things with you.

I get what you're saying but this is more purpose built vs your solution.
I love mine. Bad info from people who know nothing about it. You are getting a full PS5 controller with feedback, rumble, ext. Stream your console anywhere with good wifi (best at home of course), no ps+ needed. Stream games with ps+ from cloud (no ps5 needed). No need for phone attachments and eating phone batteries. For $200, it has resulted in more gameplay for me, and overall statistics provided by Sony support this as well.

The Vita was fantastic. Unbelievable that the seriously inferior 3DS was a huge success and was like 5 times less powerful.
Vita was great hardware but a system still needs games to sell it. Aside from Persona 4 Golden it just had nothing.

I bought an open box excellent item once from Best Buy and it was missing several pieces. I don't trust their quality inspection process.

I had one. I tried it in hotels, car WiFi, public WiFi and home. Hotel didn't work well if at all. Car WiFi worked and was playable but the quality was pretty bad, like 480p. Home wifi worked perfect in some spots and didn't connect in others. Public WiFi was spotty. This is a miss for me. I sold it. But very comfortable to hold. If they had a stand alone, this would be perfect but as a streaming device, I personally thought it was a waste of money.

No brainer if you already have a PS5 and a high-bandwidth wifi connection. PS+ Premium is not required, but will allow you to stream without the PS5.

Got mine today, $135 "excellent" and it does look brand new, original box. No USB-C cable, but I have a ton for phones etc.

Initial impressions are good. Both ends on wifi 5ghz, haven't noticed lag yet. Once you get it set up and connected it connects quickly and easily. 8" screen is nice. I tried remote play on my phone and screen is just too damn small.

My PS5 collects dust due to me being a married, working adult. Living room screen time is pretty limited. And the BEEP from turning the PS on seems to attract my wife into the living room like a tractor beam, wanting to watch TV.

So far so good. No bluetooth for headphones (except for $$$ Sony ones) is a head scratcher, but at least it's got an actual headphone jack for wired.

Tried for a couple hours to get a reliable connection to the Ps5 and it never worked. I then switched the streaming cloud games which worked reasonably well, but that program is actually still in Beta so there is a very high likelihood it won't be supported for much longer. Also, at that point, it's just as easy to stream those games from any other device. So, this got returned.

I think anything other than streaming locally on your own wifi - you are asking a lot. Even that seems to be a challenge for some home networks. Some claim to have success however fully remote? Me - this is not a 'take on a trip' device. Rather - I plan to use it around the house so I am not stuck down in my basement when I want to play game. Good device for that if you can make it work. It works for me? I wish it was more consistent for others. Imo - at this price - give it a shot.
You're abosutely right-it is a handheld gaming device that allows you to stream your PlayStation 5 games over your home Wi-Fi, a way to play your PS5 games on the go, without needing a TV
