About these books:
  • These are part of The Three-Body Problem Series (4 total books).
  • The Dark Forest: Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion-in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy. Only the human mind remains a secret. This is the motivation for the Wallfacer Project, a daring plan that grants four men enormous resources to design secret strategies, hidden through deceit and misdirection from Earth and Trisolaris alike. Three of the Wallfacers are influential statesmen and scientists, but the fourth is a total unknown. Luo Ji, an unambitious Chinese astronomer and sociologist, is baffled by his new status. All he knows is that he's the one Wallfacer that Trisolaris wants dead.
  • Death's End: Half a century after the Doomsday Battle, the uneasy balance of Dark Forest Deterrence keeps the Trisolaran invaders at bay. Earth enjoys unprecedented prosperity due to the infusion of Trisolaran knowledge. With human science advancing daily and the Trisolarans adopting Earth culture, it seems that the two civilizations will soon be able to co-exist peacefully as equals without the terrible threat of mutually assured annihilation. But the peace has also made humanity complacent.

Just read the first book. But why did the Trisolarans tell the Adventists their plans to send the computerized particles to earth in advance? Didn't make any sense.

It's really annoying when subsequent books in the series are discounted but not the first one. Like, how they expect you to get interested when you haven't read the first one?

The whole series is dumb. Try not to think about it too much, just enjoy the terrible writing and cardboard characters.

yeah, I have to agree, based on the first book, the writing is terrible, the characters are two dimensional, and the action sequences are ridiculous. The best bit is (obviously) the imaginative aspects of what alien technology might look like, with regard to the various extra dimensions.

Because they don't care. They treat human as insects. They think even you know it, you cant do anything. And it is proved to be true in the second book(the whole earth fleets got destroyed anyway).

I read the first book and I just couldn't understand what the hype was about. I found the book boring. Some bits were interesting, but overall it was a tedious read. So much so that I consciously decided not to pick up the next book. Usually, I almost always finish a series — especially shorter 3 or 4 books series. This is one of the rare instances where I left it after the first book.

To be fair, I did read reviews saying the series gets better. But after my experience with the first book, I couldn't get myself to continue.

Though I appreciate you responding to a direct question, why would you post spoilers in a deal thread where people are considering purchasing it?
