hook this up to a usb-c battery pack to keep on during the flight. go to your phone and connect to the router wifi address. then go through the standard process to logon to the GLI web portal address. then select the plane wifi. should pop up with the plane login. this works most of the time. this is great for multiple devices on a plane!

Was just about to post this. I've been waiting for it to return to this price again. Excellent router for travel.
Edit: See my reply. While I think the price could be lower, there are not many options for travel routers. With reduced competition, prices stay higher. This is generally regarded as the best WiFi 6 travel router.

sharing internet service is definitely a popular use case for travel router (think airline and mostly.. cruises).

but the best use case for me is to use the same network name as one i use at home, so when arrive a location, you just have one router to setup and all your device will connect as if you are at home.

Does this still work with the T-Mobile hotspot trick or not. I tried once and it worked, but stopped working for some reason. How to make it work again.

This or the tp-Link ax one?
If you want more customization to use more VPN services or other software, then this GL.inet. But for most ppl, TP-link is OK

If you decide to get one now, I suggest getting this other one - https://www.amazon.com/GL-iNet-GL...B0B2J7WSDK because the 1800 has a newer version of openWRT pre-installed. But AXT1800 is a bit bigger/heavier, which defeats the purpose of traveling.
I have the AXT1800 and it's not supported by openwrt. I bought it thinking it was but it's GL-iNet's proprietary flavor of the firmware.
The MT3000 being offered here is supported by openwrt though: https://openwrt.org/toh/gl.inet/gl-mt3000

+1 - this is the correct answer.

If the internet speed on a cruise is slow, does it matter to have this or Opal sft 1200 for 30$?

I've got one and it's great for traveling with the fam. I just spend a few minutes connecting it to the WiFi at the remote location and BOOM, everyone's devices connect as normal like they're at home, and I don't have to fuss with helping them get connected.
I also have mine configured to use a ProtonVPN Free account when I need to use a VPN. Works great. Fast, too.

That's my main use case. The other issue this solves is trying to connect a Roku stick directly to hotel wifi through a captive portal is nearly impossible. Log in once through a device connected to your routers wifi and you're good to go.

I'm actually using mine right now.

Does this work to bypass southwests walled WiFi garden or it's more so if you're only allowed to connect to one device this makes it so many devices work instead ?

Some questions about the Opal version and is it comparable to other more expensive models. I had the same question. This YouTube video helped https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5Do63IQIFA. Suggested the Opal was adequate for 90% of users needs. It's $30 Discuss.

you can watch some YouTube videos regarding the instructions,

first, you can buy the wifi with the phone,
then I see 2 options:
1. use the USB cable to tether & share the wifi through this router
2. clone the mac address of your phone, and use router to connect to the plane's wifi and share it

Heres how i do it for Airplanes and Hotel Rooms

1 you setup all your devices to connect to the travel router.

2 once the airplane or hotel room hit 10K feet ( altitude of the hotel room varies use your judgement) turn on the wifi router, connect your phone to the router, go to the login screen of the router and then select the repeater option for the wifi you want to rebroadcast.

3 you'll be taken to the login screen of the plane/hotel room. do what you need to activate it (ex tmobile 1 hour)

4 then have your other devices connect to it and they can enjoy the interweb.

Yes, this is also my use case, except I am using Chromecast/Google TV. I also connect the router to VPN to catch my home sports teams while traveling...

If I don't travel too much (specifically for a cruise) and not too concerned about WiFi 6, the Opal should be good enough, right?
How about just use a cheap/old Android cell phone and do Wifi Hotspot (not Mobil Hotspot) sharing?

FYI to all- it's been dropping to this price once per month for the past 6 months, I'm gonna wait 8 weeks until Prime Day because I don't have any travel plans until early August.

I'm also going to need to buy a portable charger to power this, and there will probably be a hundred of them on sale for Prime day lol

i have a Pixel device that can share WiFi as hotspot. Can anyone share advantages of using this GL.iNet over a pixel device?
