I usually don't criticize any insight... But coming on a headphone deal to say you prefer speakers is bizarre

Edit: Expired now, looks like hifiman invalidated the alternative coupon code already. Leaving my old comment below for reference.

You can get the refurbished Sundara plus a free pair of RE400 In-Ear Monitors or RE400a In-Line Control Earphones for $149 ($3.10 cheaper than this deal), deal instructions here: https://slickdeals.net/f/18326662-refurbished-hifiman-sundara-over-ear-planar-magnetic-open-back-hi-fi-headphones-free-re400-a-iem-149

I bought a pair of these in a previous deal, and I'm very happy with them. They arrived in as-new condition in a new box, just with a plain cover. I've had zero issues with them and they've shown no sign of falling apart, and survived the occasional accidental drop as well as any other set of headphones. I find them very comfortable and wear them literally hours a day without any fatigue. I have them plugged into a DAC/AMP for general use but after reading comments here I did try plugging them into my cellphone today (Moto G 2025) and it drove them just fine, plenty of volume. I guess YMMV judging from other comments about poor or unreliable build quality, but I don't think that should stop you from grabbing a pair at this price. One small thing, the supplied cable sucks and mine wore through at the joint with a plug after a few months so plan on replacing that. There are many better options out there.

Nah, this is for sitting in a plush leather armchair with a smoking jacket and listening to music through a dedicated music only amp while indulging in the experience of feeling the artist's intent through the music production and not just the music.

It's also sound leaky so the person next to you will get an earful and the plane noises will drown in .

Suggest something noise cancelling like the Sony XM 3 or 4
Thanks man. And to the others who replied. I had no idea what open back was until today lol

Tariff fees?
Few, if any, companies will charge a separate fee for the tariffs, they will just increase the price.

About 51%, I think, so really no longer a deal. It's always a good idea to check tariff rates when buying overseas these days. I almost bought a pair of Svanar buds a few weeks ago when the tariffs were higher until I realized the tariffs were around 100%. With fees and everything, it would have been about 2.5x the price .

No. Tariffs hit when an item enters the country for the first time. These are refurbs, meaning they've been here for a while. Tariffs have already been paid on them, probably at the old rate.

I'd avoid lowest end planar like these. Too many lemons. Horrible QC.
Maybe I'm crazy but the Sundaras are definitely not low end, mid-range is much more correct. These are usually $300 headphones and very well liked by the audiophile community. I can definitely see your advice on the pile of cheaper models out there but these are generally preferred against the HD600s.

Hifiman doesn't discriminate. Even their higher end stuff has QC issues. I've had 8 pairs of hifiman headphones and every single 1 has had "crinkling" issues. Not a performance problem but shows QC is lacking everywhere.

Yep mentioned quality issues above but was thumb downed. It's ok, smart buyers will take warning and avoid

If someone wants to waste an hour googling through threads and blog cesspools, by all means. I'll do a quick bot summary followed by a few Google searches to confirm that info and then use my precious time elsewhere. Those afraid of utilizing these new tools are going to fall behind...

I got the Sundara (open box, not refurb) a couple yrs ago. Mids, soundstage, imaging and clarity are great, though I would say I would prefer a touch more bass, and I am by no means a bass-head. Quality has been fine, nothing has broken/failed, though I wouldn't say I've used them heavily. As others have said, you should get a headphone amplifier to get the most out of these headphones.
