I have added the 30% off InstaCart coupon in PayPal but I still see $205 for the Shield in the InstaCart app. Does it not show the 30% off the $205 price until the very last step when you have to hit the button to "Continue" to checkout through PayPal?

Also, is there anyway to also add InstaCart gift cards that are discounted through CostCo?

A lot of people won't like it, but honestly the Apple TV 4K 4th(?) Gen is pretty good with Infuse. I don't know what it's missing that the Shield has though.
Apple TV doesn't provide upscaling like the Shield does either. I tried an Apple TV last year to see if it was worth switching from the Shield, but in the end non-4k content looked significantly better when watching on my Shield. Granted there was a lot to like about the UI and such, but in the end I kept the Shied for the better picture quality.

Be careful with used Shields. My fried Shield is NOT unique. They don't dissipate heat very well, and they get hot. I've read that some have tried opening them and "lubing" them to revitalize units like mine, but it doesn't sound like a project for fat fingered or easily frustrated folks like me.
I've been reselling and refurbishing these for several years now and that's not a common issue at all. In fact one of the main reasons I resell them is because they're so well made and I rarely have to do any work. They can dissipate heat just fine unless you cram them into a space with no airflow at all.

Well said and true. Google TV stick and, Roku pro and apple TV are all $100 or more. I have the OG 2015 and a 1019 pro versions. Both still work like its day 1. The 2019 upscaling works very well. Google Home and assistant and photos are instigated as well. Don't forget its also a full blown gaming console. Its in a league of it s own.

From the research I was doing bec i am sick of paying Directv when they cant even put a dish on my roof anymore (wtffffff?????????) and i dont like Comcast, ATT also sucks, so I am thinking going Youtube TV and since the controls for that suck using your phone or TV remote, and if you want to custom program FF/RW times, I think it'll be good and this sale popped up perfect timing........

"Most people don't get why the NVIDIA Shield Pro costs more—but it's not just a "streaming stick." It's a full media powerhouse. Unlike Fire Stick or Roku, the Shield can stream in 4K with no lag, play files from your computer or home server, run Plex, Kodi, emulators, and even upscale old videos to look sharper with AI. It supports Dolby Vision, Atmos, HDR10+, and lossless audio, which most cheaper devices don't.

Plus, it never slows down like other streamers—it's built like a tank and still gets updates years later. You can even customize buttons, use voice commands, and sideload any app. It's basically a tech nerd's dream tool and still crushes every other box even 5+ years later.

At $145? It's a no-brainer if you want full control over what you watch and how you watch it. It's the last streaming box you'll ever need."

plex + $50 roku from 5 years ago works just fine dunno what else ppl are doing that needs this.. lmk.. seems very niche ig that's why it never drops in price
Roku is great up to 4K. When I tried setting HDR up on my brand new one last week it couldn't send the signals to the TV. It's fine if you don't watch those formats.

My mother just upgraded her TV to a higher-end mid-tier 4K TV but frequently uses 1080p IPTV streaming. Will this upscale the streamed video in real-time? I'd like to see her extra investment in the TV not be feel wasted due to a lower resolution video source.

Roku has supported HDR for quite a while. If it's not working for you with a new 4k Roku device then it's your setup, not the Roku.

Would a $200 HTPC on sale work better than the Shield? I know you have to buy a $20 voice remote, but just curious the benefits or losses.
Most people want a media device to be remote control friendly. An HTPC running a desktop OS with desktop apps will never be remote friendly. Sure you can get an HTPC to function well in Kodi with a Flirc, but once it's time to switch apps, game over. Break out the air mouse and the keyboard.

Actually tempted to jump on this just to be a Kodi box, since my HTPC has become slowly crippled by Windows 10 and Microsoft's incessant background updates.

My only concern is that the NVIDIA Shield is powered by the same GPU as the Nintendo Switch. The Switch 2 is about to come out...which makes me wonder if a Shield refresh might follow.

edit: seems like you don't get true atmos support.

Right there with you on Apple TV 4K and Infuse. I was able to finally get off of Kodi on a PC because of it which is a hassle to configure/maintain.

Interestingly, the Kodi forums have a longstanding thread about capability of media boxes for formats and protocols because it's so varied and complicated. Have to side load Kodi on Apple TV now so they don't list the Apple TV in their list anymore but it used to be Apple TV was the most feature complete media box and Nvidia Shield was second.

Their main focus was streaming local .mkv

Any idea why my OG Shield will get hung up on the logo at boot and requires multiple tries to unplug and replug it in? Thanks

reminds me of the "good" old days of WMC...
when it worked it was quite nice (back when DVRs were hella expensive, cable cards were a thing and streaming services weren't a thing), but on the daily occurrences when it didn't
