Eh, I'd steer away from anything new by Synology. You have to buy one of their "approved" compatible drives. Which amazingly are all sold only by Synology even though they're just Toshiba NAS drives with label slapped on and a different ID in the firmware.

That is only for 2025 and new model so for 2024 and older models it does not apply.

Apologize for hijacking this thread but I will never do business with Synology. No arguing that Synology has good stuff but their overall business strategy for the last few years has been moving towards a closed proprietary system. They want to be another "Apple" where they can extract and extort ridiculous prices for anything and everything that runs on one of their devices. Prime example, but they will refuse to support a device that doesn't have Synology memory installed. Haven't checked lately but Synology memory prices are generally +50% higher than regular memory....same stuff, just doesn't haven't the Synology ID.

The final straw for me was the "J" Series / BTRFS debacle that occurred around 4 years ago. Synology discovered that users were able to run BTRFS on the budget "J" series. Without disclosing, Synology put out a new OS release that after "upgrading" blocked access to any data under BTRFS, forcing users to either upgrade to a more expensive device or migrating the data off the platform and then reinstalling in a different less flexible format.

Well then what is a good option?
