Does Minisforum have any barebones for DDR4? My old NUC is dead and there are two 16gb DDR memory sticks and two 1TB Samsung Nvme drives are still solid.

Look for the Intel barebones as till 14th Gen, they support both DDR4 and DDR5 memory. AMD models, wince Ryzen 6000 series, only supports DDR5. Look for NAD9 deal I have posted.

The CPU. Ryzen 7 7840HS vs Ryzen 9 7940HS. I did some quick research and saw little difference between the 2 CPUs. I expected the Ryzen 9 series CPU to have a substantial difference. Something like a much higher clock speed, additional cores, etc. But I found that the clock speeds were almost the same.
I think the main difference is that the 7940 offers some additional capabilities for overclocking the RAM along with more granular controls over the CPU voltage. Perhaps undervolting the CPU to see a slight decrease in performance in exchange for a decent decrease in power and heat. Both the overclocking and undervolting are things that probably require BIOS support. And BIOS features and updates tend to be an area these cheap mini PCs tend to be lacking.
Someone smarter may chime in and correct me. But on paper, it doesn't look like it's worth paying much more to step up to a 7940HS. At least, not without confirmation that this exact product lets you take advantage of the overclocking and undervolting.

This price is pretty good. Still not recommended to get from their site?
Definitely not recommended to get from their site unless you pay with an AmEx or something that offers purchase protection. My UM690S refurb arrived with no packing and was just bouncing around in the box. There are tons of horror stories online about terrible customer service as well. If you can't get it from Amazon, order at your own risk
This is a great deal on a 780M graphics based system. This is the same GPU in the ROG Ally handheld and it's great for 720p and 1080p low end to medium settings gaming.
Don't buy from Minisforum website! I bought mine last week and the unit stopped powering on (which is common with these mini pc). I tried to get a return but they kept making excuses and not letting me return it. I just decided to take the loss and a lesson learned

It's a 1 year warranty. I definitely wouldn't give up on that kind of sale

Better to pay more for new on Amazon or safe to buy refurb directly from their site?
