starting 1st April, Total (and all Verizon mnvos including ST) now require 60 days of paid service

seems the newer model is slower but with more features like more cameras, water proof design, gorilla glass (the old model does get micro scratches easily), etc.
A lot of us got screwed by buying the Moto G Power in February when the conditions were to pay for 1 month of Gold service.
Just know, you are taking a risk that they will honor the 2 month agreement.

Here was my process:
- 3/24-4/23 Straight Talk plan (paid service month #1). No service 4/24-5/24.
- 5/25 Contacted TracFone via online chat support. The agent "rebranded" the ST SIM to TF and created a TF account. The device's original activation date with ST doesn't change (this activation history can be seen in the new TracFone account) and the ST paid month still counts as one paid month of service.
- This is where it got a little messy for me. Once the CS agent rebranded the SIM and created the TF account, they asked to also enroll in a plan, but I opted to do this myself via the website, and I ended the chat support there. I logged into my TF account proceeded to try to enroll in the $15 1GB plan that discounts to $10 if you also enroll in auto-refill, but the wesbsite wouldn't successfully process my enrollment (non-specific error message when trying to complete registration). I then tried enrolling in the TF app and the app showed the error message "device is in inactive status".
- I then contacted chat support again. They attempted to enroll in the plan I wanted, but they said the $5 auto-refill discount wasn't an option on their end because the account hasn't been activated yet (??). This didn't really make sense considering the auto-refill discount was a checkbox option when enrolling on the website an app. The agent said there was nothing they could do about this (not even a manual $5 discount), so I just went ahead with the $15. It worked -- I restarted the phone, service was activated and the phone was also now unlocked.
So there you have it. A pain in the ass and very annoying about not getting the $5 plan discount, but I'm just glad it's now done. You'll have to decide for youself it the hassle of switching to TF for $15 plan is worth saving $20 compared to ST's $35 Bronze plan. You can avoid some of the trouble I had by allowing the agent to complete activation with a plan all the way through.I think TF may have loaded its own app onto the device, but to be honest I wasn't paying very close attention at that level. I didn't use the phone when it was on ST (once I activated the requisite ST service and did basic setup, I just turned off the phone to wait for the 60 days to lapse for unlocking), so I don't really have a strong reference point for comparing differences. I didn't notice any TF branding on the startup screen. I've already factory reset the phone and am using it on another network/sim now. Once the current TF plan lapses, I'm going to close the ST and TF accounts and be completely done with that weaselly company.

A couple follow-up question on the rebrand process.
- To re-brand a straight talk phone and SIM card, I guess you have to provide the phone's IMEI and the SIM card id? On my straight talk SIM card, I see a 20 digit number (across 4 lines) so wanted to confirm that needs to be provided.
- Did you have to provide credit card information to the chat agent to enroll in the $15 plan?
- Do you know how it works if one needs to rebrand multiple phones/SIM cards like I do? Can they all be rebranded to the same Tracefone account or would separate accounts be needed?
What does it say when you check your device's eligibility at the bottom of this page: https://www.tfwunlockpo
Probably worth contacting customer service and have a person review your device for eligibility.
I'm already using my phone on another network, so it has 100% worked for me.

- Yes, you'll need to provide cc info to enroll in a plan. In my case, I had added cc info when I tried to enroll in a plan myself, so there was already a saved cc in my account and the agent asked for last 4 digits, exp, ccv to validate the purchase.
- I don't know the possible options for multiple devices, sorry.

A few notes to add from my experience:
- I had the Tracfone agent activate my lines on the $15/month plan (unlimited talk/txt, 1 GB data). Total with tax for each line was about $16.50. I entered my credit card information in a separate secure payment form so it shouldn't be accessible by the agent.
- I couldn't get the auto-fill discount either (to make it $10/month) as the agent said something about not being able to apply it towards the first month when first activating the lines. They said it could be applied on the subsequent month.
- Each line being activated required a separate transaction charge. On my Chase card, I have a 25% Chase offer for Tracfone (max of $15 cashback). I was hoping I could just pay one charge for all the lines to maximize the cashback, but looks like I'll only get the 25% cashback on the first transaction.
- I asked if I could keep the original Straight Talk phone numbers on the new Tracefone lines because I wanted to re-use the Straight Talk SIM cards and not have to possibly pay for new Tracefone SIM cards. I provided one of the original phone numbers, but the agent said it was no longer in their system. So I had to get new phone numbers for all the lines.
The agent had me provide the ICCID number from the SIM card for the first phone being processed, but later they said they didn't need it for the other SIM cards. But I could end up re-using the original Straight Talk SIM cards and have new Tracfone provided phone numbers on them. (I also did provide them the IMEI for the phones.) I guess they still have in their system the IMEI of the phones and the associated ICCID of the SIM cards, even though the original phone numbers for the SIM cards are not in their system anymore.
- After re-starting my phones, I verified the Tracfone service on them was working fine and confirmed my Moto G Power 2024 phones were also now unlocked (from Settings > About phone > Device details > Network Lock). Also, dialing #TFUNLOCK# confirmed the phones were SIM unlocked. So also confirming no need for 60 days of continuous service like has sometimes been mentioned as I have a long gap between when I last had active Straight Talk service and now.
Thanks to you and others who suggested this cheaper Tracefone option. It still sucks that they changed their policy to require 60 days of paid service, but paying less money to them lessens the pain a little bit.
Good catch on the Chase cashback, I missed out. I got Chase cashback on my original Straight Talk purchase, but I was so focused on just figuring out this issue that I didn't even to think to check for TracFone cashback (I also used a different cc). Damn it. Oh well.
