Anybody know about this particular drive? There's not much info about it in the newmaxx (https://borecraft.com/) spreadsheet. The website (https://images.teamgroupinc.com/p...g50-en.pdf) doesn't provide nand/controller info, but it does confirm that the non-Pro version doesn't have dram and this is less than a 10% discount.

This is a hell of a lot better deal than a chinesium brand at a similar price, but I'm not feeling particularly enticed.

dog sh*t. spend a little more on a samsung or crucial drive

this uses an innogrit controller that is know to have data loss issues, and chinese NAND (made by YMTC) with piss poor endurance and reliability.

crucial P3 plus is only $20 more.

Anybody know about this particular drive? There's not much info about it in the newmaxx (https://borecraft.com/) spreadsheet. The website (https://images.teamgroupinc.com/p...g50-en.pdf) doesn't provide nand/controller info, but it does confirm that the non-Pro version doesn't have dram and this is less than a 10% discount.

Pro and non-Pro have same speeds and endurance, only difference I see is Pro have dram cache.

And they list Pro up to 2TB while non-Pro goes to 4TB.

Specs are meh in 2025 for a pci4.0.

Definitely. Copying large files to it will take awhile since it doesn't have a dram cache. But once the files are copied over. You're set.

This thing is pretty good for its price level. The good thing about it is it's tlc and not qlc. Would not use this as an OS drive at all since it lacks dram but it's fine for bulk data.

I may be getting things mixed up but I don't think this is the exact Innogrit controller known for catastrophic failure. However, this might be the old YMTC NAND that had questions about its data retention. I'd be a bit wary of this drive. It seems like all the TLC drives around this price range come with serious tradeoffs that might not make them worthwhile over a good QLC drive, like the WD SN5000.

The pSLC cache is what has a major impact on write speeds, not DRAM.

DRAM-less is fine for an OS drive, especially one with HMB. While this drive may be TLC, that tradeoffs make it a bit less appealing.

I think there was a recent front page deal $160 for 4tb, but it's another brand and qlc instead of tlc. Is +40 more worth upgrading to tlc? I'll be using it as a secondary hard drive.
