These use a single AA battery which means it'll be extremely dim, will get dimmer through the night till dead, and battery will get weaker within a year or two. All major disadvantages with Nimh batteries, and hopefully it doesn't have a Nicad AA or it'd go bad way faster.

On the other hand, Lithium ion solar lights wouldn't have any of these problems but on rare occasion would explode or catch fire if either the lithium cell was defective or if the electronics were defective. Both are possible at these price points.

Comes with a single 400mAh battery which is very low capacity. I would upgrade the battery with something having at least 2000mAh which would add $1-3 (or more) per light, depending on brand. They would need at least 6 hrs. of direct sunlight as well, so placement is a consideration as well. Search "aootek solar motion sensor lights" on am a zon - mine came with 1200mAH battery and can last until the morning as long as they get a lot of direct light.

Those aootek style lights are great but this is a totally different style than those motion sensor lights

1.25 if your outside of a major city. about $3-$5 if you are in a a major city. Still good luck finding them and the quantity needed. Usually a scant 4 or at most 6 pieces. You are better off paying for it via Lowes to avoid the headache and the fact that it might cost the same.

Yeah, so these are so cheap!

For $2.50 its not a ripoff, but I wouldn't pay more for these.

The batteries as mentioned are laughably horrible! Who even knew they still made this low capacity of nicads in 2025??? LOL!!!

Luckily, I have a plethora of AA eneloops sitting around gathering dust, so I used my rechargeable to do a "refresh" on them, and plugged them in and that bumps you to 2000mah. If you have spare AAs that are otherwise of no value to you, I'd pick these up. If you're planning to spend money to replace the batteries, just buy different path lights in the 1st place.

Sorry, 2000mAh is what I meant to type.
Edit: Never mind, standard rechargeable AA are 2K mah.

Are you sure they all same for using in solar? I thought solar is slow charging and need specific batteries made for solar lights? I never tried or replaced, may be i was misinformed.

NIMH can be slow charged, offer much more capacity (2K to 2.4K mah), and don't have the "memory" effect of NICAD.

There's only one battery per light, so no concerns with balance charging or anything.

The light is also just one single LED and not bright at all, in fact incredibly dim at just 5 lumen, so chances are the NIMH won't even fully discharge by morning.

One super annoying thing with square ones unlike round, it can be hard to get them all perfectly lined up right. With round it just needs to be not leaning over to look perfect. With square, you have to get the rotation right too, and you can't rotate once stuck in the ground.
