It is for me and I'm a very sweaty guy. I switched all my rash guards to cotton in BJJ. I hate the feeling of synthetic and sweaty. Plus it retains heat.

But you just stay sweaty with cotton, and cotton retains smells a lot more than synthetic. I prefer synthetic when working out/rolling but to each their own.
