I learned this the hard way with a pair of old Samsung Laser printers when HP bought the printer business from Samsung. HP ruined both my printers, and I put them in the landfill rather than have them go to somebody who would have to feed the HP monster...
The printers were color laser that cost ~~$275 each new from Fry's.One Toner OEM HP cost a cool $490...

I got a lifetime supply of toner free after rebate when NewEgg was cool.
I got a lifetime supply of paper free after rewards from Office Max before they merged with office Depot.
I haven't had to pay to print something in over $10 years. My printer still works as good as the day I got it.

I second that I'm even waiting to buy a new one. I can't even kill it.

No, Brother firmware updates for the HLL2465DW printer do not block the use of third-party toner cartridges. While Brother encourages the use of genuine toner for optimal performance and reliability, firmware updates are designed to enhance functionality and security, not restrict consumer choice. Brother has explicitly stated that they do not intentionally degrade print quality or block third-party cartridges.

It is one thing to post opinion, but posting an absolute false statement about a product is grounds for my response.
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act protects consumers from being penalized by the original manufacturer for using aftermarket parts. This law ensures that manufacturers cannot void a warranty simply because a consumer uses a third-party toner cartridge.
In terms of coffee...below is example.
Keurig faced lawsuits regarding the use of third-party coffee pods in their machines, particularly after the introduction of the Keurig 2.0 system. These lawsuits, often alleging antitrust violations, stemmed from Keurig's alleged efforts to restrict the use of non-Keurig pods and ensure consumers purchased their K-Cups. Keurig has settled some of these lawsuits, including a $31 million class action settlement.
Also as others have mentioned and would like to add from my own perspective stay away from HP laser printers, they are complete trash. First they created admin accounts that you have to login to every time you need to make the simplest change and the passwords are long and annoying written inside the door of the printer. Second I ordered two and both had issues with coming out of sleep to print or needed to be restarted regularly to actually work.... Switched to Canon, no issues for months now.

Looking for this as well. Have a brother B&W laser refurb from 2020, which while is going strong, I would like to have a color laser now for kids homework.

I have an old Brother printer (MFC-L2700DW) that I bought in January 2015, still works after printing/scanning just about daily for the last 10 years, but text printing appears too light even with Brother toner and aftermarket toners.
