How does the activation work? I am thinking about ordering a phone with a family members verizon plan, paying it off immediately and then using it on my own non verizon plan. Is it going to interrupt their service or require porting numbers around or just as simple as moving sim cards around?
Verizon phones are locked to Verizon for 60 days from activation. So after paying it off you have to wait for 60 days before the phone is unlocked so you can use it on your non Verizon carrier. If you want to instantly unlockable route order ATT and do SIM swap (see wiki/pinned comments)

Interesting... You will get a final paper bill from Verizon so let's see if they mention payment there. That should be the final truth.
I've already gotten my final electronic bill (they haven't mailed it out yet). It was only for $114 (First month plus activation).

Phones are not immediately unlocked, for ATT you can SIM swap to get them unlocked immediately (see my pinned comment/wiki) but for Verizon you will have to wait 60 days from activation of the phone in Verizon networks. 24 ultra would be the comparable update from 21 ultra and yeah it's very reasonable upgrade. S25 is very similar s24 except for the soc which won't matter much if you are not gaming, the software update story is better with s25 but s24 comes with 6 yrs or so OS update so you should be good. I prefer the ultra cameras over pixel 9 pro xl.
Ok thanks very much for all the info! So it sounds like it's better to try your wiki instructions with att and canceling instead of trying to do it with my families verizon lines? I do have tello already fwiw and I am into gaming but not sure what soc is?

Also I tried one of these walmart deals in the past and orders got canceled but I thought I read in the thread later people did have issues with cancelling the lines. Is there any risk of not being able to get the lines cancelled or charged additional fees?

Yeah, you would want to wait at least after midnight today.

soc is system-on-a-chip CPU and GPU.

You do have to chat multiple times, see the wiki of the oneplus thread in the pinned comment but if you are persistent and follow the steps it is not hard.

Verizon prepaid won't lock your unlocked phone but in this case you are bringing in a Verizon locked phone but I think once you active it shouldn't need active service (Verizon prepaid phones are a separate category of phones for example) but I can't vouch for it do it's better to go for postpaid device and cancel it.
Went to Verizon to get a postpaid connection and they said it's locked and does not let them give new postpaid connection. Did not try prepaid.. I called Verizon customer care and they said they submitted an unlock request but waiting to be unlocked. Not sure if it will go through.
Someone said that Verizon activations are behind but it's been 2 days since my phone has arrived still not activated. Not sure what's going on.

You should have given them IMEI of an unlocked phone and get a physical SIM and insert in to the s24 to see if that works.

For those who used this deal to upgrade an EXISTING phone line on ATT, how did you get it activated?
They wouldn't do it for me over the phone or online.

Bought Verizon and AT&T. VZ went smooth. Paid in store and canceled the same day via chat. Was told I will be charged a months service but I pushed for same day.

AT&T, paid the phone in full before delivery. Phone delivered today, activated, sim swapped, unlock requested and was approved immediately. Cancellation however was tough. Contacted via chat and they claimed they can't authenticate my account, so I did the port out method using the Infimobile sim I got from a prior deal. Port out was instant and wireless account non existent on MyATT app. Bill was still $127. Will that drop?

I want to upgrade my line, but the main account is on the other coast. Walmart.com only ships to the account address. Has anyone been able to duplicate the deal in-store?

I think Walmart let you change address once after placing the order

You can just put the SIM for your old ATT phone in the new one and it should get activated on the network?
