See the steps below from https://slickdeals.net/f/17077762-at-t-128gb-samsung-galaxy-s22-ultra-5g-w-added-line-or-new-customer-activation-350-35-activation-free-w-free-s-h?p=167181442#post167181442 (you will have to change to s24 from s22 if you want to flash unlocked firmware) but rest is same.

ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.

0. Do the following steps after paying off the phone fully and then waiting for a day or so for the unlock portal to get the paid off status.

1. ATT changed their unlock policy on 3/18 to require 60 days of service before they can unlock a fully paid device. Previously, it used to be right away if you have paid in full.
2. There two timeline for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
3. You can use a tello number and port to ATT but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to https://www.att.com/portstatus/. Many from z fold 3 got stuck in porting limbo and got the ATT account cancelled.
4. As with many deals here, a SIM swap method is found which can be used to unlock the device. This was working recently but not sure if ATT would fix it by the time you try it. The steps are as follows.
a. Pay in full for the phone. While your payment will quickly reflect in your account it will be at least a few hours before it updates for the unlock request.
b. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
c. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of ATT phone and submit an unlock request.DO NOT attempt more than twice or you will be blocked for 24 hours.
d.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
e. Only cancel the line after you have unlocked the phone.

Then after unlocking if you are feeling adventurous and want to flash the phone to an unlocked firmware to get rid of ATT bloat you can follow these steps. It's actually very easy to do with Odin.

1. There are many models of s22 ultra but in US two models are imp. S908U is carrier locked version and S908U1 is the unlocked US version. The firmware for these versions are interchangeable so you can flash the ATT model with S908U1 firmware.
2. Download patched odin v3.14.1_3B_PatchedD.zip from https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-o...1.3762572/ as regular odin does not allow flashing mismatched firmware.
3. Download the firmware from S908U1 XAA version from https://samfrew.com/model/SM-S908U1/region/XAA/ Extract as there will be multiple files.
4. Connect S22U to the windows PC.
5 .Put s22u in download/recovery/odin mode. Power down. Press Volume up and down together and then press Volume up to go into recovery (a green screen would appear).
6. Start odin and then select different files for different categories and then start.
7, It should be now the US unlocked version.

FYI for those ordering with ATT, activation fee on the bill can be waived automatically by clicking on "don't recognize this fee" on the bill on web/app even if it's more than 3 days. It's one time (every 12 months or so) favor from ATT. See wiki of this thread https://slickdeals.net/f/17327499-oneplus-nord-n30-5g-128gb-unlocked-chromatic-gray-cph2513-best-buy-0 for more details on bills afterwards.

I ordered online yesterday the ATT one to expect receiving it today. Called both the Ontrac and Walmart since there is no update on tracking. Walmart said it's not in stock so they will send once it is back in stock. Online already showed and still showing it's in stock. Now I will not be able to receive it any time soon and will miss the 1-3 days window to playoff and cancel etc. Too much hassle imo. now I am preparing to cancel the order if no update later today 😞. Credit pull loss

Finally i received end of 3rd day. it was memorial day holiday when i ordered hence the delay. Was able to cancel it 4th day. Will likely get bill including the activation fee which will see if can get waived . Thanks OP

Canceled before 3 days and I just received my bill from ATT. It was $4.09, the activation fee was automatically waved. I think I can swing that. 😀

My bill still shows $79 after I hit the did not recognize fee for activation. I chatted with them just now and they said the bill will show the updated cost in 3 or 4 days (it's already been 3 or 4 days since I cancelled). Chat usually takes a while to figure out there should be a pending credits for me.

I opened the Verizon account online, linked my service, went to store to payoff and cancelled the line in-store after the payoff. Came back, tried to login online but can't access the account anymore. What should I do? I am assuming they will send the final bill on my address. Will I be able to get it waived later?

I cancel the account online through chat and the account is available for login after cancellation but it seems store cancellations might wipe everything off. I suggest calling them now and mention buyer's remorse, make sure the activation fee is waived and charges are prorated. And then calling them after a week to see final bill reflects it.

The count should start from the day the phone actually ships. That is when the account is created.

Cannot unlock the ATT phone, what did I do wrong?
Maybe instead of 24 hrs, I have to wait 48 hrs after paying it off, sim swap etc?
..
Error message below :
"You can't unlock your device until your installment plan is paid off. If you pay off your device as part of your monthly bill, wait until the start of your next bill period to unlock it.
Want to pay off your device early? Make sure your number has been active on the device for at least 60 days. Then, sign into your account to review and pay off your installment plan. Wait 48 hours after you make your final payment to submit a new unlock request."
.
Can I cancel the service, keep the phone for 60days and request unlock as non-ATT customer again?
Not keen on paying ATT plan for 2 months.

It's possible something is stuck on ATT backend and it's taking longer for it to update. ATT CS can always give you the unlock code and someone got it from them through chat so I suggest politely asking for it on the chat. Don't cancel the account before you are able to unlock.

As per ATT unlock policy https://www.att.com/support/artic...KM1008728/ it's 60 days wait to you should be able to request unlock but it's very unlikely it will go through unlock portal. You would have to talk to CS to get the code which becomes tricky without an active account but I know people have indeed got the code before but I have not done that personally

I would tell them you want the bill credited now if not ask for a supervisor. I did this in the past and fell for the credit at the end of the month. It didn't give any credit after a month and i still had to fight them.

From the time ATT line is activated. It might be during order or most probably before shipping the phone.

Thanks, I did mention similar. The rep assured me it should reflect on my bill in 3 days (the 6th), so I'll wait a few more days and see if the final bill is adjusted accordingly. It'll be about a week since cancellation as gadgetNerd suggested.

Yes, be polite but firm about applying the credit to the current bill given that you might not have a next bill to apply credit to.

Hi all, I find it a bit tedious to buy a Verizon product, pay it off, and then cancel the line. So, is it possible to change a $75 line to a lower-cost postpaid plan instead of canceling it?

I ordered yesterday around 5pm. It looks like fedex got the package within the last hour and I have set up the att account. Should I pay the phone off now or wait until its delivered?

I was able to successfully do the network unlock with AT&T using the SIM Swap method described in the WIKI. I can now use the phone on my T-Mobile account. I have a couple of questions about future software updates:

1) Will I be able to receive software updates using my T-Mobile service, or does the phone need to be connected to AT&T service to receive updates since it is still technically an AT&T phone?
2) If I flash the phone to an unlocked firmware, will it be able to receive future software updates regardless of what carrier I'm using for service? After flashing, is it no longer seen as an AT&T phone?

Thank you to anyone who has experience with this that can answer, and thank you for the original deal post and the very helpful WIKI info.
