Why does this have such a high MSRP compared to this $20 GE 16ft strip [amazon.com]?

Not a huge difference. Mainly has to do with extensibility (or lack thereof in the Solo line) and size options. If you don't ever need to extend the strip, the Solo is perfectly fine.
