Why would you thumb down this ... I literally bought an Asus rog ally extreme for 315 open box which is double the performance than this and it comes with a built in screen. I paid 20.00 for the dock from this site and use it as a gaming rig and daily runner.
the ALLY is not double the performance....

idk who thumb u down. u got a rare find there...but this computer in the post can expand the ram up to 96gb, i guess its for people that need it. and this has many usb inputs, nvme slots, 3 display output etc. built in. its a different need...i considered the rog ally and legion go but i don't need it's screen and i need more than 16gb ram. and if i want to game i would do it on my laptop or desktop.
im still waiting on a good deal for a mini-pc (don't know if i need one). im deciding if i really need a minipc or just stick with my laptop/desktop.

Same here. Think of this primarily as a plex server and some occasional browsing.

ROG Ally has the AMD Z1 Extreme, Zen 5 x 8 cores, 5.1 ghz boost... 6800h is rolling 8 Zen3+ cores @ 4.7 ghz. The 780m has 12 RDNA 3 CU's @ 2.7 ghz, the 6800m is 12 RDNA 2 CU's at 2.2 ghz.

About a 10% difference in raw GPU and a similar edge in compute performance in synthetics, power limit is generally lower in the Ally due to the small handheld form factor vs mini PC with fixed AC power. The trouble comparing mobile chipsets is that that identical examples will perform very different between examples based on how the system they are in is configured for power/cooling.

In some cases the 680m could be faster than the 780m in gaming applications (https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comm...ison_with/)

The ROG is a newer chipset/architecture and paired with LPDDR5x RAM @ 6400 mhz which is a plus in the GPU performance... but the whole chassis is power/thermal limited so that headroom is mostly theoretical under load. Anyone saying the Ally is "twice" as fast is delusional, real world these are very similar performance wise, one is a mini desktop form factor and the other is a small handheld so use case is what should drive the "best" option for someone.

$300 - $350 is a pretty typical used price around here so I'm not sure that an open box for $315 is extraordinary, and Asus warranty coverage on a second hand device... good luck. You should be able to kit out the mini PC barebones with 32 gb of RAM and 1 TB of storage for around the same price.

Are there any negative reviews? Or alternate recommendations? I'm looking for a mini PC and this looks like a decent deal.

I purchased a refurb system and didn't encounter any issues (yet). Shipped as promised. I've read that some of their refurb units have spontaneously failed but mine is OK so far, but it's been less than a month.

Yeah I don't know about this particular unit, but Miniforum is a mainstream vendor for Mini PCs. There are tons of reviews of there other systems on YouTube. ETA Prime has reviewed quite a few of them.
I would probably get it with Ram and Storage for $300, at least it comes with a windows license that way. If you aren't worried about the license and have the parts, then yeah this is a pretty good deal. This 6800H is a Zen 3 laptop part with 1/2 the cache of the desktop variant.

Not sure why these guys are complaining.
Edit: I don't know when this was released. But since AMD is on Zen 5, this could have been released as a budget model using older tech. I can find any specific reviews for it. But realistically it's a 3 or 4 year old 8 core CPU w/ RDNA 2 graphics and a 45watt tdp for $200.
You can still look around, but it seems decent if you're getting it from a legit vendor.

How do you get it for $300 after coupon? I'm seeing $399 with $70 coupon, making it $329.
