The plastic lids say "BPA free", but that doesn't mean anything. I don't know what Ball is doing, but sleazy mfgs (many/most) just substitute BPF and or BPS for the BPA. Yes, they're both harmful/toxic, and while substituting meets the letter of the law, it certainly does not the spirit of the law. IOW, you still get to eat endocrine disruptors,

Unless you see BPF-BPS free too, it's best to pass. I was about to get them a few days ago, but decided against it.

Ball is doing something odd. You can't get their stainless steel lids (you can get chinese ones, but..), you can't get their "regular" mouth wooden lids, and they're just limiting stock.

Not that anyone asked, but you can get the regular mouth wooden lids that say "mason" on them. Certainly more expensive that this deal (and this price has been there for weeks now).
A few months back, Dollar Tree had them for $1.25.

It's a very different lid since these just push on instead of twisting on. I feel like the twist-on ones don't always seal well. I have these wooden ones and I'm a big fan of how easy and quick they are. One negative to these is that since they don't twist on they are more likely to pop open from internal pressure or when they fall over, but I've never had that problem with mine.
use the plastic twist on for jars storing liquid and as long as I screw it on semi-tightly I've never had liquid spill out of them. Some of the plastic ones come with a gasket, but I've never found the need for the additional gasket.

I have these and I use them for storing tea. The lid makes a satisfying "pop" when I remove it and my tea has stayed fresh in the jars.

These are not dishwasher, or really even hand wash, safe. I wipe them with a wet towel and dry them off with a clean towel.

I wouldn't recommend these for storing anything wet, like a sauce. My suggestion is dry cooking ingredients that you would use frequently. Maybe even things like cotton balls or cosmetic things.

Dry things that are used often, which don't need refrigeration or a cranked on seal.

For tea and coffee, these have been fantastic. I like how the lip on top helps with stacking.

I wouldn't mind getting them as coasters for cups. They look really nice.

I though the were before I click. I still might use for coasters lol.

Thanks for the info. Is it your understanding that if you're storing _dry goods_ which won't touch the plastic there is no issue?

How do these compare to the plastic lids?https://www.target.com/p/ball-reu...A-54314629
I've not tried those lids, but most non canning screw lids basically suck. Not sure why, poorly formed threads? Crappy seal on the seals?

These seal great. I still use the canning lids for liquids, but these are great for dried goods. Also have a nice low profile when fitted

These are great. I use them to store dry, easy-access stuff like looseleaf tea or spices.

I don't expect them to have a perfect seal so I only use with stuff I use regularly.

I honestly don't know about "dry" transmission, but I'm careful. I'm trying to move away from plastic for food items of any kind (wet, dry, frozen, etc.), and given the option I opt for the non-plastic solution. BTW - These wood covers have silicone liners, and I'm not sure about them long term.

I use ball and mason jars for many things, including dry seeds, nuts, Parmesan, but I'll also use them to freeze extra sauces, salsa, etc. I'm also using Pyrex, and Anchor for food storage but I do my best to make sure there's no contact between the plastic lid and the contents.

I also have some stainless steel containers with plastic and silicone lids, and the same caution applies about being careful of food contact. It's impossible, or maybe just unfeasible in some cases, to get away from plastic completely, but it's worth trying.

Exclusively using these for dry goods, just ordered another set of 5 after evaluating the first set.
I do not doubt the seal is sufficient for dry goods, but would avoid wet due to the potentially porous and less than washable wood.
