Not necessarily. No box spring obviously lol. Spring may wear over time more than foam or latex. But you could do a cheap mattress that is firm with a 2" topper and enjoy it. I have the Sam's club upgraded one that has massage. It's not a great massage but it is relaxing. I work outside so I come home, shower and lay in the bed for 30 min massage to relax.
