For what it's worth, GMKtec, Beelink, Minisforum are the bigger brands in this space. I have a GMKtec HX 370 EVO X1 I use as a low power consumption server. I ran full scans of everything, nothing. PC came with no bloatware at all. I would stay away from AceMagic though…

This video should help. He tests games and emulation during the 2nd half of his vids. Some of the vid is with the igpu and also some dgpu tests.

If you're really THAT paranoid about someone stealing your identity and getting all your personal info, better not install Windows 11!

this is bordering misinformation and bad advice. enable secure UEFI and you should be good. also, creating a second account did Jack shit. if you are paranoid, reinstall OS and setup a real firewall that blocks anything you don't trust.

I don't give a shit about spyware, I won't store any credit card numbers or nudes on this.

Can someone approximate what this "gaming" device can realistically run? Cyberpunk in 1080p completely out of the question, I assume?

Would a wipe and reinstall windows protect against this?

Do that, bare minimum. I'd be more worried about the Intel ME, and the network card idling while shut down. Do what you can to shut that off, or upgrade it with trusted firmware. Create firewall rules on your local network to prevent it from going to China.

No. PRC agents will sneak into your house while you sleep and reinstall.

So mini computers are more likely to have malware installed or it is a certain manufacturer?
Best to install Windows yourself. If you're not able to, run a couple antivirus full system checks at least.

Even if you did, do you think PRC is after you specifically?

Of all the comments about paranoia and spyware in this thread, this guy is the one you choose to reply to?

First, two of these links have nothing to do with bios attacks. The one that talks about it, a bunch of goobligok opinion piece that ends with recommendation to enable secure UEFi. Second, stop getting butthurt and downvoting just because I challenged your comment. Ultimately, this is all just nonsense. Secure boot and UEFi are specifically developed to address the BIOS attacks. So is TPM. Stop regurgitating something you read and keep learning when someone challenges you.

Your second point about being "butthurt and downvoting just because I challenged your comment" is entirely untrue and I will prove it by marking your two posts as funny because I don't downvote differences in opinion. People being cautious help keep bad influencers at bay

If you're really paranoid, don't just wipe the cheap SSD, put a new better one in it, and if you must use win11, get yourself a free standalone copy of OO ShutUp10 for it. Adguard Home on the network also helps block other trackers like Google's, Amazons, Rokus and Metas across your entire network. Block 8.8.8.8 in your network firewall or create a static route for it in your router.

Well then good thing this is an AMD mobo then...

While most of this is just scare mongering one of the issues w/ Chinacom minipc like this is that very rarely if ever do the update the BIOS like say my Dell work laptop which every month is on top of things. I bought a CWWK NAS mobo that last update the BIOS in 2022 and probably will never ever again. I am not too concerned of course because it is running Unraid and on these boxes I run linux variants only. But if I were to run Windows I would use CTT debloater because Microsoft is the #1 telemetry spyware, then maybe the CCP and other bad actors. This can minimize but not eliminate, but we do the best we can. It is amazing how many different things MSFT spies on.
There are no US companies innovating in this space or even selling outside of Apple, so it is left to these Chinese companies which is a shame but hey. If Apple weren't e-waste and non upgradable I would have one but alas I build my own.
The good thing is there are steam variants on Linux now so if you game you dont have to run windows, and I type this on AnduinOS which seems to be a solid debian release and bordering on user friendly on a $200 Acer laptop since Google locked down chromebooks as ad machines now.
