Edit: as I predicted many people dislike this but not one person gave an argument. The reason is that it is impossible to make any argument justifying this and it is cheating. You do not have to go here they do not owe you anything so that you cheat them or anyone else. This is a fact and you are delusional if you think otherwise.
The house always wins.
Granted, the phone #s can be fake, but they could stop that with SMS verification.
Likewise, there's a good # who forget to cancel, and at $15/mo, that funds other users' free months or their free months when they sign up again. Why do we have apps (e.g., Trim, Rocket Money, Truebill, and Bobby) to check for subs that we've forgotten about and no longer use? I cannot be the only one who has done this with Panera and other subs, correct?
Lastly, I have bought hundreds of dollars in gift cards to Panera to use for things because when I log into their kiosk for a drink, it prompts me about a deal for a $2 pastry or $1 bagel or $2 off a sandwich. And I don't know many people just going in for a drink, but I am sure there are plenty. I do on occasion when driving by.
I personally think that if they go rid of these free months, they should offer a cheaper sub ($3/mo?) for frequent diners to get a free drink with purchase. Their sandwiches are overpriced and small, but they are yummy and "healthier", and I'd go in for a sandwich once a week. I see a lot of company meetings order from them as they cover the spectrum of what people can eat when there are dietary or religious restrictions. The ones near me are always packed during lunch even with high schoolers.
I know that without this SIP Club, I would frequent Panera maybe once per month. There is no value IMO on their food. I could buy a loaf of French bread for $1 at Walmart and a tub of chicken salad for $5. That would be like 4 sandwiches at Panera and the cost would be like 1/5th or more.
