Samsung drank the apple greed is good koolaid and never looked back
This is why you buy Micron(crucial) when ever you can, there newest tech on certain SSD's is best in industry with there new Gen SSd's going into all Ai applications. They are taking it to Samsung which I am happy to see. Tired of Samsung's attitude about there products..

Samsung promised us cheap 64TB SSDs back in 2016. They were bragging about it all over tech and IT websites.
4TB portable external drives (2.5" HDD) came out in 2016 and cost around $120. I never would have guessed I'd have to wait 9 years to get double the storage (8TB) in the same portable form factor. Now we just have to wait another 5 years for the price to come down to an inflation adjusted $120, if we make it there at all.
Annoying how the Amazon listing and SD staff didn't bother posting the key spec, that it's USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (and then you get the techy whiners saying their mobo doesn't support it). Why is Crucial burying this "crucial" spec? Way at the bottom of: https://www.crucial.com/ssd/x10/ct8000x10ssd9
I have the 4GB. I mean it's okay but I'm not sure why everyone acts like this is amazing. It's great for me because it's small but even on my MacBook it's like any other external drive. Still too slow to actually load pictures one by one. You save some times transferring hundreds of images, I guess.
As the last post said (but didn't elaborate) you should connect this to a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 to realize the full 2100 MB/s performance potential. It works fine on older ports, but it will be "just like any other drive". Also, since you're willing to pay the Apple tax, you should stick to "Mac compatible" (read marked-up just because we can) versions.
Moving hundreds or more files is always better done using tarballs.
I am glad to see the prices of the 8TB starting to come down.
Gee, the tech field is changing and I'm starting to change how I now feel about ssd/NVMe,mech hard drives, etc. Some of us have been through many changes over 30-40 years from floppy 5 inch and 3 1/2 inch disks,to cd's, dvd's, hard drives, and ssd's and nvme. I feel the change coming again.
Also the quality of codecs and media players are changing a lot, and microSD stuff, etc. I can get great quality videos in nice smaller sizes, and if I look back 15 years ago, they were hugh file sizes and the quality wasn't that good.
Not sure what is coming NEXT. Not even sure how many TB's I need anymore.
Maybe AI will produce next wave of stuff.
I have too much stuff, and with each "upgrade", I pretty much throw away my old tech gear .... it more just falls away because I switch to newer tech toy that amazes me.
This looks interesting and I would have bought it a few years ago, but , now ... .... ... I'm OPEN to the next greatest and newest stuff.
