I have had this router now for about a year. It does somethings really well like hardwired using a 2.5gbit usb lan adapter for my laptop and 2gbit fiber get download speeds exceeding 200MB/s which is really solid.

However the WiFi is dodgy I have it set to reboot every night at 2am and even then no matter the channel or band randomly will drop connections and have packet loss issues and it's random could happen 40x in one day or not at all.

I bought it because it was the cheapest router at the time with more than one 2.5 gbit port in fact all of them are which is really convenient.

WiFi coverage is ok have it pretty centered in my two story house and 5ghz coverage gets 700-900Mbit downstairs and 300-400mbit upstairs which is adequate for streaming 4K everywhere. Wife's MBP is the only device that uses the 6ghz channel and she has no complaints.

TLDR version great hardwired, so so for WiFi reliability

It has a 2.4 ghz band. It also lets you create seperate SSID for IoT.

The whole ban thing started under the Biden administration is dead in the water, it was nothing more than other router manufacture company lobbyist who didn't want to compete with TP-Link on price pushing to black list them so they could charge ridiculous prices for their routers....... It was never about spying. As of late last year and all of this year there has not been a single update or push for any banning by the current administration, and since TP-Link took all the measures the government asked, including forming a new parent company in California the chances of a ban are almost non existent. If you go into other TP-Link threads you can find all the articles I posted stressing the same I just dont feel like going through them all myself to find them again.

As for the recent good prices, probably because they are mass producing these guys in numbers that none of the 3 other main router manufactures can even come close to if they were to combine their production lines. With mass production and market share comes lower prices. Not to mention its an Amazon partnership anytime you see the 20% off with their reward cards.

I bought this in February for $200. It works pretty well. Easy to setup with the phone app. Coverage just as good as my wifi-7 ubiquiti access points.

No, not resolved. The government may still ban them from being sold in the U.S. That may be why you're seeing deals on this stuff recently. I wouldn't put it past them at this point.

I'm wondering the same. I'm a Ubiquiti guy for my network, but I have a lot of people ask me for my opinions on things. I've been steering people away from their cheap stuff, but I don't know if these higher end units are more secure.

I have a higher end version and it drops MLO constantly. It's super frustrating because I have 10G fiber at my house. The options for 10G service and MLO are super limited i.e. the nighthawk RS700S still doesn't even offer MLO. Any other options are 1k+.

The USG threw a wrench into the gears of networking space and walked away. Wtf. We need some clarity. I want to upgrade my equipment, but I don't know who I can trust. No one does down-to-the-digit-level reviews anymore. So who the f knows? I'm not an engineer, so wtf do I know.

I have one. It has 2.4ghz plus it allows you to create a separate IoT channel and SSID that is isolated from the other main channels on either or both of the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.

It also has 'Smart Connect' which combines the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands under one SSID, and 'MLO' which does the same for 5Ghz and 6Ghz.

'Guest' networks are available for all bands.

Link Aggregation is also available for Ethernet.

Dont have two of these but I do have a BE3600 Wi-Fi 7 and 2 AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 ones and this meshes easily to them.

Don't know about the 'problems' others have reported, but mine has been working fast and consistently.

I'd like to see some sources to back up the claim that it's dead in the water. The government moves as quickly as molasses uphill, so I think it could still be brewing, especially since members of both parties were discussing it in February. Is it justified? I have no idea, but I don't think it's gone.

this was $170 last month after coupon but before 20% off amazon card. The prior discount was $30 off versus $20 here

That deal was short lived for just a day. I bought this deal today, came out to $197 before the 20% off amazon.

Is it 20% off plus the normal 5% cashback using the amazon card or is it 15% + 5%?
