Yes, they both are guitar and played the same way. However, the branch learning and playing each instruments are different.
I started only with acoustic. Later bought a cheap electric and hated that. After 20 years later. I liked both. Acoustic has it's challenges. But it can play different type of music. Almost like freshwater fishing versus saltwater fishing. They seems the same , but different.
For $200, yes, you can use it as a beginner guitar for a teen to try out. Then if they want to play different type of music, look further then. But I would not want to rule out playing acoustic just because they are harder to play.
