When ringing up IN STORE then will show up as separate prices for each item and then you're able to return one item and keep the other for their respective pro-rated price. This cannot be done on their website, the free item just shows up as free and you cannot split them, some have said that it works with the Lowe's app but I don't have that to say either way.
Regardless, on your receipt it HAS TO show a price for EACH item, if you have a price for an item that means it can be returned separately. Home Depot has a lot of stuff like this (and they can be done a bit easier as well).

I wish I could get a bare 7.5 for cheap, got enough 5's and good on basically all tools.
