Bought it at Costco warehouse. It's $349.99 or $30 cheaper than on costco.com. The $100 OFF is valid from 5/14/25 to 6/15/25. I installed it in my son's room. He said it's a lot better than the old Sharp single-hose AC.

A 20K BTU unit will need a 240V circuit. A 10K can usually run on 15A 120V circuit. If you can plug them into different 120V circuits, you can run 2 10K units simultaneously. On the same circuit, they will likely trip the breaker.

I dont know if this version of the DUO has mold problems also but I got a DUO about 18 months ago and it has mold issues on the fins. You have to remove the entire shell and many screws in order to get the wheel out to clean the mold.

The U shape one was recently recalled for mold. They both are AWESOME units except for you know.....dying from mold.

Looks exactly like the Toshiba 14,000 BTU 115V Inverter Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner I got last year for 250 from Woot! Same remote and everything. It did its thing when my HVAC was down for a week. I bought an extended hose from Amazon. It can be loud at high, but it kept the temp down. I should have bought two.

Can you give a link for "extended hose from Amazon." Thanks.

I used this 6inch 25ft dryer hose and connected it with Metal Duct Connector, Straight Pipe Coupler https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09B1VG...tle_1&th=1

There's currently a recall on their popular U shape window AC unit due to mold growth.
Not for this portable unit in the post though, but here is the link for the recall. https://mideaurecall.expertinquiry.com/?lang=en

This recall involves Midea U and Midea U+ Window Air Conditioners. The air conditioners are white and are about 22 inches wide, 13.5 inches tall, and 19 inches deep. The air conditioners are designed to fit in windows and are available in three sizes of cooling power: 8,000, 10,000, and 12,000 BTU. The model number can be found on a label on the front right side of the unit when facing the air conditioner. The following model numbers are included in the recall:

Reposting this from the refurb thread:

I immediately noticed the high pitched whine (that some described as a high frequency field of crickets) and unfortunately, many reports say that it's due to the PWM compressor circuit, a feature that is common to all Midea manufactured inverter portables. It's my only complaint about these units, but it's not a total deal breaker, as I can assimilate the sound after awhile.

Does anybody else hear that high frequency noise when the compressor is running?

[edit] here are numerous threads about the topic
Link 1 [reddit.com]
Link 2 [reddit.com]
Link 3 [reddit.com]

To verify that I'm not imagining the high frequency inverter noise, I recorded audio of the compressor running and looked at it in a spectrum analyzer. The main peak is around 5.5Khz with smaller peaks at 17.9Khz and 11.9Khz, in order of decreasing amplitude. The reddit thread I posted also confirms the 5.5 Khz tone. If anyone cares, it would be helpful for those claiming not to hear a noise to verify it, as it's a reported issue with the unit.

Here are two test tones of the noise:

11.9 Khz [youtube.com]

Got the same one and used it non stop in a upstairs bedroom during summer, does work great. My issue with it was the really bad mold growth deep in it; not just the vents. I kept it clean and ran the dry mode? and fan etc etc. I never had a drain hose hooked up to it (never said too). I took it apart as much as I safely could after removing like 40 screws and still couldn't get to the most inner workings; cleaned it as much as I could. Did my best putting it back together and still had a handful of screws left over haha. Still works, but I'm hesitant to use again. Maybe I'll try spraying some vinegar in it.
What's the level of mold build up? Any reason what caused mold?

I don't know why it had so much mold. Overuse in AC mode? Never needed to be drained, but maybe just the condensation in the air caused it. You can't even get to the spinning fan drum deep inside it which had as much black mold as the rotating vent. I always kept the filters cleaned. Realistically maybe I should have setup the drain hose. Never felt the need though as the house has low humidity with a central air system and it cycled its own dry mode. The mold wasn't like omg thick, but it was enough to see it everywhere. I didn't take pictures while it was apart.

Thank you for the details.

I have also drilled several drain holes, pressure washed the outside unit. But that didn't remove the mold that had already in the unit.

I was completely caught off guard too. I thought the weird smell is from the outside and not the unit. And breathing issues are perhaps another variant of COVID-19. Lol

These units offer evaporative feature, but I drain mine out in a gallon jug and empty it every 2-3 days. If not, it uses the water to splash around and cool the fins. Yes it helps to keep with efficiency but it will corrode within 1-2 years and you'll have a refrigerant leak or mold issues. Older AC units last for at least 10 years. The newer ones are about meeting efficiency. I'd rather not have water sitting in my unit that is constantly in the thin copper or aluminum fins.

I got this at $350 from store it's nice and quite but it's tripping both 20amp and 15amp GFCI breaker. Any workaround for this? In my house there is no non GFCI breaker in Living room/Dining/master bedroom where I could possibly use this AC!

I'm sorry, but I won't trust anything by Midea after their terrible scam air fryer I purchased. their customer service sucks ass, all they do is read the manual to you, so I guess if you are illiterate and can't read, then customer service may be acceptable.

Midea makes most appliances. They just rebadge them. Almost all microwaves are also made by them. The brand doesnt really matter
