This is actually a very common practice in the audio industry---"refurbs" "B-stock" and "open box" are often just brand new items marked down for the bargain hunters, so that those who are willing to pay "regular" price can continue to do so.

Depends what climate you live in and how sweaty you get, you might have to buy new earpads after a year of use.
