Not a bad deal, but that $150 MSRP is nonsense. These have been $79 on Amazon since November.

Head-fi says the original price was $109 subsequently discounted to $79. According to the HiFiMan site however, the msrp is $599. So, an even greater bargain than you thought

I'd say these are probably QC rejects, based on the seller page's license saying "Kunshan Haifeiman Technology Group" instead of Hifiman Corporation.

I would just pay the $79 to order them direct https://store.hifiman.com/index.php/he-r9.html

Seems like you don't know much about enthusiast gear. Plenty of audio equipment (ex: chi-fi) is primarily sold on AliExpress.

Just like all the retro handhelds that were posted here a few months ago. But I would not assume you of all people to know that, let alone that $30 would be a proportional savings of 40%, which is pretty good. It's nice that there are some closed back deals posted, since most enthusiast gear is open back, save for the Phillips SHP9500 and Beyerdynamic DT770

Interesting find op. Not for me. I've heard that hifiman has been slicing prices down a lot in China to account for low sales.

Unless you're using them for commuting or in noisy spaces, I've always held the opinion that closed-back designs are the death knell for sound quality of any high-fidelity headphones. Just my opinion, but if you're doing hi-fi listening in a quiet environment, then open-back designs are almost always going to be preferable (assuming the headphones are around the same class/price range).

It was $600 when released 4-5 years ago. Quickly dropped to $300. And then $100 after a couple of years. Now $50 is a good deal.
All this proves is that these headphones were grossly overpriced. HiFi Man has had the reputation of low quality for many years. I remember pre-pandemic when Hi-Fi Man headphone owners used to post photos of their cans literally crumbling into pieces.

Wood earcups remind me of the silly old "woodie" days when Sennheiser owners purchased snake oil aftermarket wood earcups for their HD600/650 cans. That was embarrassing.

You can buy them refurbished directly from Hifiman for $59. I've bought several refurbished headphones from Hifiman, including this one, and they all arrived in brand new condition. I think they're shipped from New York so you'd probably get them sooner too. Fun headphone and a steal at this price.

Bought this before but returned it,feels cheaply made and wasnt that comfy. Bought the sundara closed instead and the open one. Its bulky will be huge on your head.

$50, crazy....

I remember paying x3-4 times the price for these when I first got them. I've been tempted to part ways with them a few times as I felt they were not worth the price asked based on sound quality and better options but they were compatible with my Hifiman blu-mini R2R dac attachment for wireless listening so I kept them. They are reasonably comfortable and lightweight despite the looks of the cups. These to me have a rather dark and bassy sounding signature to them. At $50 dollars I would rather listen to these over other cheap stuff out there like the Philips SHP9600.

Aliexpress is like ebay or 3rd party amazon. You aren't going to get scammed unless you do something dumb like confirming receipt when you didn't get it. Otherwise you will get your money back. Just my experience with hundreds of purchases...
Absolute nonsense. I've bought hundreds as well and recently had the experience as people above. Aliexpress sided with scammer, paypal sided with scammer, and only my citibank came through, but it was 3 months worth of headache. The item was 2 motherboards weighing 5 lbs shipped to California, their tracking was 40 lbs shipped to Illinois, and they still sided with the scammer. Executive paypal team also didnt understand simple logic.
