I had Perplexity's research model look at the ingredient list and application. After pulling from 48 sources including YouTube, Reddit, HowStuffWorks, the US Patient office and others, It states:

Correct. These are the soap and you scrub with a brush after they dissolve. These aren't fabric that you use to scrub the toilet.

I sprinkle a little dishwasher detergent powder. Cheap and works great.

I've seen people use denture cleaning tablets like Polident that seems to work well too. Also very cheap.

Comet powder(with bleach) is regularly $1 or less at Home Depot and does as good or better job than this. A can lasts forever.

Lysol magic wand & dispose system is the best, easiest, quick & effective method I have noticed. Far far better than any other product in the market.

That's what I've been using. But I received one batch where the pads (refill heads) get soggy right away and sag to the point where they're about to fall off. I hadn't seen that before, but it's happening multiple times, so I think it's a bad batch.

Knock on wood I haven't had a single sponge like that. I have only bought them from Costco during their sales/ discount. Been running fantastic at our 3 bathrooms, no problems so far.
