This MR5500 router compares well to the Asus RT-AX86U in terms of performance (see here [cnet.com] and here [tomsguide.com]).

I am very tempted to get this. I am using a Linksys MX4200 router as an access point, essentially, and it is working well. Do I need another router? Scratchhead

Same. I have 2 Asus ax3000 mesh routers and was going to add a 3rd. But maybe getting 3 of these is a better option

Can not find this router on OpenWRT website.

DDWRT seems to support it though...

is this more stable than LN1301(MX4300)? I have mesh running with default FW on MX4300 but every 2 months, i need to reboot the mesh

For price comparison, this refurbished router has been $50 on Amazon [amazon.com] since March. It is also sold by Woot there but with a better return policy. This still leaves me on the fence because of the meager $10 discount and Woot's limited return policy.

Some people don't need fancy Wi-fi especially if they just surf the internet/ youtube /,,,etc around the house. My parents(1500 sq ft house), for example all they do is Facebook and YouTube, and Whatsapp video live with the family.

Is this better than those rebranded Asus T-Mobile routers? I am about to try and do a mesh system in my house.
