Beat me to it, I was just about to post that. I was able to snag one because a user on slick deals posted a link knowing that he would get thumbs down since it's not a slick deal, it's MSRP but he did it anyway. Love this community!
Just a heads up. Most of the physical games aren't on the cartridge, it is only a key that allows play. Also, Nintendo can remotely disable the entire console, if they decide you're doing something they don't like. I collect consoles and games. I won't be adding the Switch 2 to my collection. I also don't support the DRM overreach. Let the thumbs down begin....
Understand the sentiment but for those who have little kids playing, this is a nonissue. So those reading this should temper with what their uses are.
You know that this console will probably have a shelf life of 6-8 years, right? You don't buy the system today to only play the games released today. I don't understand your comment.
I think you have the idea backwards. The better saying in that regard is "never buy a product based on future promises." Yeah it might last 8 years, or it might sell less than expected and be out of the loop in 3 years. Doesn't really matter either way, you shouldn't ever buy something because you hope it will be good in the future, you should buy it only based on its current worth/functionality.
If someone hacks it and allows more freedom, then I'd be down for it. But this is going to repeat of the classic Wii when they shutdown their servers until someone hacked it.
I returned two online order to Verizon after I was able to pick it up in store last Friday. I feel the stock of this is pretty decent. It should be widely available within a month.

Here's the exact snippet from the EULA:
Quote
:
"Without limitation, you agree that you may not (a) publish, copy, modify, reverse engineer, lease, rent, decompile, disassemble, distribute, offer for sale, or create derivative works of any portion of the Nintendo Account Services; (b) bypass, modify, decrypt, defeat, tamper with, or otherwise circumvent any of the functions or protections of the Nintendo Account Services, including through the use of any hardware or software that would cause the Nintendo Account Services to operate other than in accordance with its documentation and intended use; (c) obtain, install or use any unauthorized copies of Nintendo Account Services; or (d) exploit the Nintendo Account Services in any manner other than to use them in accordance with the applicable documentation and intended use, in each case, without Nintendo's written consent or express authorization, or unless otherwise expressly permitted by applicable law. You acknowledge that if you fail to comply with the foregoing restrictions Nintendo may render the Nintendo Account Services and/or the applicable Nintendo device permanently unusable in whole or in part."
I didn't thumbs down you because you're not purchasing a console because you disagree with the EULA, that's your prerogative and I respect it. I'm thumbs downing because I see massive oversimplification of what you need to do for Nintendo to brick your console, because it's literally all things A) no normal gamer would do anyway and B) stuff you know you're not supposed to be doing in the first place.
Don't pirate games (or utilize services that could be used to play pirated games) or cheat using hacked hardware or software and you'll be good. That's totally reasonable.

I'll vaguely answer the "when" by saying that I'm deep in the Nintendo hacking community, the major players in that regard have already stated that they have some stuff working already but they don't expect to make a public release of anything for at least 3-4 years. So unless some random hacker finds an exploit and releases it out of the blue I wouldn't expect anything to come for a while. I'd also expect that you'd need to have a low FW console, unless a hardware exploit is found, to use said exploit when it does release, so anyone who really wants it will need to store a launch Switch 2 in their closet for a few years probably.
This should be a standard, not a designated feature.
The launch catolog is embarrassingly bad.
Embarrassing for whom? The company that has captured all gaming media attention for weeks and is selling out consoles or the excited folks buying them?

And also prevent scalping. I think they did a good job on that. They broke sales records doing so.
