The only real change this year is the subwoofer.
My position is the same as theirs if you read the verdict. They essentially say get whatever one is cheaper. Also this is a product that really doesn't need a yearly revision. They could put out a new one every 2-3 years and that would be fine.
Eventually I bit the bullet and picked up a HWQ950, then a Q990B, then the Q990C, now a Q990D and I just bought the Q990F via the woot sale above.
The HWQ950 had great sound but really shoddy wireless connection with many dropouts (the vizio at the time was also prone to dropping out and the sound was far inferior. Had a manual tuning process.
The Q990B sounded as great, but was prone to dropouts. More stable than the Q950 but I noticed a spotty connection. The wifi would often disconnect as well. Also had to be put into tuning manually.
I've had zero issues with the Q990C and Q990D.
I have has a 65in S95C and now a 65in S90D; it's not a killer feature but I appreciate Q-Symphony and definitely notice when it's not running. Pror to these TVs I was running an Optoma GT1090 projector
I will not fight anyone who believes that these soundbars are expensive; they are. You can absolutely do "better" with a dedicated receiver and multiple satellite speakers. The value for me, here, is getting what I feel is great sound with minimal footprint and relatively no setup.
Happy to answer any questions I can.

I have 990c no issues, these are really good systems, I put mine to the test with music all the time, with that said, no need to pay over 1k for any of the 990 versions, many have been had in the 600s
The only feature you'll miss out on is the Samsung Q symphony that goes with Samsung TVs. If you don't know what that is then don't worry about it because it's not a deal breaker to consider this over LGs top-of-the-line home theater sound bar (S95TR) that competes with it.
Personally, I'm going with this to pair with the LG G4 over LGs S95TR.

How do you get the 15%?
I feel the same way about people paying this much for a soundbar!
I get the improve tv speakers/sound, convenience, aesthetics, ease of use/setup and all.
$1k for that seems pretty high when you can get 95+% of it for much less imo!

Of course- going with a full true speaker setup will always be king, but this is an excellent alternative for those of you who don't want the hassle, have the space, want to spend the money, etc. It's very high-end and premium sounding; nothing like your average Wal-Mart soundbar.
