I am not sure how these compare to the strawberry flavor, but those were pretty awful. This is coming from someone who regularly eats protein bars and other protein-marketed snacks, so I am familiar with the flavors/textures and how they differ from their "non-protein" counterparts. I wouldn't buy the strawberry again, but I might try the chocolate one.
Just another heavily processed "food" masquerading as a healthy alternative to heavily processed "foods."
Here are the most controversial ingredients in these, from my pal CGPT:
1. Erythritol
Artificial sugar alcohol; generally safe but linked to digestive upset in some and possible cardiovascular risk at high intake (as per a 2023 Cleveland Clinic study—still debated).
2. Polydextrose
A synthetic fiber and sweetener; can cause bloating, gas, and laxative effects in some individuals.
3. Palm Oil / Palm Kernel Oil
High in saturated fat; linked to heart health concerns when overconsumed. Also raises environmental and ethical issues (deforestation, habitat loss).
4. Natural Flavors
Broad and vague category; may include chemical solvents, preservatives, or MSG derivatives. Often criticized for lack of transparency.
5. Sucralose (e.g., Splenda)
Artificial sweetener; disrupts gut microbiome and show negative insulin response in some studies.

For the non-obese keyboard warriors here, just an FYI all of Chocolate/Cherry/Cinnamon are available for $14.99 after S&S + 40% off discount.
Ignore these people expecting a real pop tart lol. Sorry you can't have your cake and eat it too. These are way better than Quest/Builder bars.
I don't know why you're being down voted. different people react differently to erythritol. some people love this and others report a very artificial "cooling" aftertaste. YMMV
I was also highly disappointed with the strawberry version. I was expecting a good tasting bar with high protein but shit ingredients. What I got was an awful tasting bar with high protein but shit ingredients. Like I was totally willing to tolerate the large amount of fake sugar, multiple shitty oils, the cheapest synthetic fiber one can buy, and multiple food dyes if it just tasted good. But if it's gonna taste this bad, then might as well just keep the ingredients clean.11g Erythritol, plus 1g sugar and some sucralose and some 'natural flavors' and they still can't make it taste decent.
These came out to $13.49 (pre-tax) after discounts for me. Been eyeing these for a while and am a fan of Quest bars, Magic Spoon cereal, etc., so I figure I'll give these a shot too. I ordered frosted cinnamon and strawberry.
I'd love to enter a protein snack or powder deal discussion and not be bombarded by fear-mongering wannabe nutritionists. It's one thing to share your knowledge about the ingredients inside these products, it's another thing to act like people are only relying on these as their sole source of protein and to act like people will die if they consume the occasional protein treat.

Strawberry are by far the worst flavor next to birthday cake. The s'mores, fudge and brown sugar are really good.

The chocolate are much much much better. A bit too artificially sweet to be great for my taste, but they r solid. Definitely can hit the pop tart craving and the choc filling is good. Agree the strawberry IS ABSOLUTELY FKIN HORRENDOUS

They are terrible. Legendary makes other products that have great macros and taste. But none of their "pop tarts".
Male natural bodybuilder here, and avid fan of these protein pastries. I get the concern with the ingredients. However I've used these products to curb cravings and successfully cut to 10% body fat while maintaining muscle mass. They work for me when incorporated with a sensible diet.

I'm in the same boat as you. I utilized some of these protein snacks to curb my sweet tooth while still keeping calories low and making protein a priority during my fat loss stage.
I don't eat protein snacks as much anymore, just because they don't really keep me full for long, and they get pricey if you eat them often. But I thoroughly enjoyed the double chocolate, especially when microwaved for 10 seconds.
These aren't going to taste anything like a pop tart, but they do a well enough job of curbing that pop tart sensation while giving you some decent protein.

been working out for 20ish years, at 42 i maintain a muscular tight body.
i live off the bars, usually 1 to 3 a day. i dont get the stomach issues some people get with most bars.
go on ebay, you can get bulk bars there like pure protein or quest for $1 a pop or less if you search.

Great to hear you've had great success staying fit for decades. I aspire to be like you at 42. So far I barely at year 5 at 30.I've had terrible experiences with PureProtein bars. I got the pure protein variety pack at Costco a while back and every single chocolate flavor was good awful but the peanut butter one wasn't half bad. But I appreciate your advice and will take a look at buying some quest bars in bulk, Quest so far has been a consistent performer in taste, macros and digestibility.
