Consider this: if the product is exactly 32" long and needs to span a 32" gap, how can the mounting holes have enough surrounding material to hold it securely? They can't. The holes are inset 0.75" from each end, making the effective span only 30.5", which is 1.5" too short for 16" on-center studs.

The instructions specifically tell you to drill into the center of a stud, which is physically not possible. See the multiple bad reviews about this product being too short by 1.5" dating all the way back to 2019 or earlier. The real mystery is why this has GOOD reviews? I'd speculate it is that some people aren't following the instructions and screwing it into drywall or the side of studs (which substantially compromises its supported weight).

To quote their manual:
Start rail in middle of the first stud. Rail should end in the middle of the last stud.

Which as I said is physically impossible if the product is only 32" long. Again, the holes would be off the end of the product. Both the RYOBI LINK Wall Rails and Craftman VERSATRACK add an extra 1" to 1.5" to each 32" section allowing them to be drilled on-center. This is a uniquely Fasttrack issue.

Would this work on metal sheds or you think not a good idea to mount on metal?
