The insult of your math was not courteous. However, your math is wrong. You paid $200. You got $40 back. Your net paid amount then was $200-$40 = $160. $40 back / $200 paid = 0.2. You got 20% off.
He didn't get "$40 back" as you said. If he received $40 in CASH back then yes your statement would be correct. However, he received $40 in extra Lowes GC.
He paid $200 for $240 worth of Lowes GC. That's a savings of about 17%

Was able to place two separate order for $200 each. One using Gpay and other using a credit card which is the same as the one used for Gpay. Received two separate $40 gift card. Thanks OP.

This is almost as fun to read as the math for "the more chocolate bar you eat, the more weight you lose".

I see your logic path, but it's completely wrong. To find the discount percent, divide what you paid by what you recieved in return, then multply by 100. That equals the percentage you paid, so subtract that from 100 to get the discount.
200÷240=0.833(repeating)
0.8333333×100=83.33(repeating)
100-83.33(repeating)=16.66(repeating)
Convert to fractions for 16-2/3% discount.
Home Depot literally half price of Lowes in the garden section at least. Tons of overpriced shill, but I still go bc it's way closer to our house than HD.
"if you buy $200 gift card at face value, you get a $40 bonus gift card. What is the percentage of your savings"
chatgpt says 20%
gemini says 16.7%
Gemini still sucks to a degree, but your problem is in your prompt. This is 20% bonus, not discount. You pay $100, and get $120 in credit. So, 20% more.

for $240 GC you paid $200
so, for $100 GC you pay: (200*100)/240 = 83.333... ==> approx 16.67% savings
The fact that you are getting $40 GC AND NOT CASH, makes a big difference
