Who has been following the these Dewalt starter kits for a while, was the $350 deal a complete anomaly or do they pop up from time to time?

They happen like that less than a hand full of times during the year. Usually not that good of the deal though.

not with this many tools, and definitely not with the 20 volt lines

I wish Dewalt would stop mixing and matching the XR and standard 20v max lines in their bundles. I love my XR set, but I do feel mixing different lines in the same package can be dodgy.

I think he's referring to the kit that came with the additional jig saw or the cheaper one that came with an extra 5ah. They sold out insanely fast but that's the only time I've seen it.

At least all the tools are brushless (well other than the worklight 😉). I think the goal of this kit is to be brushless and compact and so it features mainly ATOMIC tools. However, there is no ATOMIC sander, full-size circular saw, or worklight and so the XR circ saw and sander are included.

Which begs the question. There are so many ways to group tools, was it essential to group the circ saw and sander of a different model? I'm only a little skeptical because I bought an XR set that included one non-XR piece. They eventually replaced it for me, but it was weird to have to ask.

Personally, I'm not bothered about different branding on the tools. I have a mix of branding on my DeWalt cordless tools, and specifically picked the tool to match the need. Sometimes that will mean picking an ATOMIC tool because the compact size is preferable and other times it might be an XR. I have XR (6-1/2 circ saw, recip, jigsaw, cut-off tool, planer, plunge router, compact router, biscuit joiner, sander), ATOMIC (one-handed recip, compact impact wrench, 4-1/2 circ, compact bandsaw), FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE (grinder), FLEXVOLT (7-1/4 circ saw, chainsaw, leaf blower, string trimmer) and 20V MAX tools without additional branding (rotary hammer, grabo, heat gun, worklights, shop blower). I would much rather pick the tool based upon its specs (and performance reviews) rather than the branding, especially when that branding can be some what arbitary. For instance, there is now a full-size plunge router in the XR range, but the compact trim router is also XR. It would seem that the compact router could be rebranded from XR to ATOMIC to fit the ATOMIC delineation of a compact brushless tool.
