People with weaker hand strength, older people, arthritis, if you have to do a large amount of pruning any of those and this thing is a lifesaver. It rips through large branches easily. Also helpful if you are in the Dewalt battery ecosystem already.

I've had this tool for 2 seasons now. I'm rather proud that I haven't lost a finger yet. These are incredibly powerful, and make easy work of some major pruning and yard-clearing jobs. Once you see how easily they'll slice through large branches, you'll understand how they can slice through a finger no problem.

For me personally, I have a half an acre yard with lots of trees bushes plants giant oak trees with limbs that fall in the yard and seasonal storms and hurricanes in Florida that wreak havoc in my yard and these things are so valuable and save me so much time and cutting up pretty thick sized limbs quickly and efficiently and easily. For an average small yard with just a few things I think you're right, this might not be necessary or even valuable or worth the money. But for me, these things are worth their weight in gold.

If I'm doing 200+ cuts I can do that in about 10 minutes as opposed to more than an hour. These things are awesome, efficient, and they can get into corners and angles that shears can't.

My dad is in his 70's and recently got a pair of these. We all expect he will walk in without a finger one day. These things are legitimately the most dangerous tool I know of.

I thought the same thing until i had to chop up branches from the last storm, this thing goes through branches an inch thick like its cutting butter. The blades open and close very fast so its super quick work with zero effort. Did I need these in my life? no, like you said manual versions exist but I have no regrets buying them, I even told my wife I wished I bought them a year ago when they were on sale.

Even my 80 year dad was out in the yard chopping shit up with them, I imagine its even more legitimate for older people or people with arthritis or whatever.

If you normally cut a 1/2" branch with a lot of space around it and at say chest height then a hacksaw is the way to go. But if you wanna cut off dozens of branches a year some up to 1 1/2" thick and especially at near ground level where you have only a couple inches of room around them, this tool is indispensable.

Try these, and you'll wonder what the use case is for manual pruning shears. And then you'll notice a lot more stuff that should be pruned that you never bothered to do yet.

I have the manual version of these and am a healthy Middle Ages man and these can cut through way thicker branches and more so like 100 without blisters - highly recommend especially for breaking down tree fodder

I'm a Horticulturist and these are worth their weight in gold. Being able to make 100's of cuts on plants that need trimming back every year this makes it so much easier and quicker (Panicled hydrangea for example) . Also selective pruning these will zip through branches I couldn't do with hand prunes. Pruning needed overhead or weird angles this does it with ease. Just like a Dewalt pex stretcher may seem useless or something you could do easily by hand. When you use it extensively niche tools like this are a God send.
