Other examples would be like a project for home improvement and you can ask it how to fix something or how to build something. I asked to create an above toilet shelf with only parts from Home Depot and it was able to give me an idea for the final product.
There is "Deep Research" thing that will do like a paper on some topic. E.g. I pulled a hamstring and told it to put a course of treatment together for me. It did a bunch of research and compiled me a book to follow, lol. You don't get "Deep Research" with free.
I generated images for various needs all the time. Again, there are a lot more limitations on free on the number and frequency (though plus does hit a paywall).
Also, after several answers, it switches down to inferior language model on free. On plus it stays on the best available all day.
Also you can change language models on plus to experiment - one of them might give better answer than others.
Honestly, for very light users any of them are probably fine, including all of the free ones. I am a very heavy daily (many times a day) user. All kinds of stuff. E.g. I had it read and explain my blood test results earlier this week. Etc, etc., etc.
Uses are honestly endless. I use it a dozen or more times per day (probably dozens on some day). For me paying for it makes sense. It's saving me tons of time. I am cancelling a bunch of other subscriptions (e.g. why have Audible when your local library has free audiobooks?) but ChatGPT is the one I'm keeping.
Since it just cancelled on me without trying to get me back (because it knows I'm hooked) I'll just have to renew when my plan expires. I might give them a day or two to email me an offer trying to get me back, but the frigging AI knows I'm hooked and probably won't.

I mostly use Deepseek, though, as I only have the free version of ChatGPT/Grok.
Imagine having a conversation with someone that never forgets anything you told it and has close to unlimited access to the internet.
