This book is in my top 5 favorites of all time! Not counting the Harry Potter series, here's my list for reference.

1. Unbroken
2. The Martian
3. Ready Player 1
4. Daisy Jones and the Six
5. All the Light We Cannot See
6. The DaVinci Code
7. Lessons in Chemistry
8. Educated
9. The Nightingale
10. The Art of Fielding
This is a great book filled with nostalgia and scifi references. It's quite different from the movie so it's worth a read if you've only seen the film.

RP1 is one of my favorite Audible books too. Wil Wheaton narrates. But be warned that Ready Player Two is hot garbage in comparison.

The audiobook version of this is fantastic, one of the tops for narration.

Really? I bought the second one a few months ago and I was looking forward to listening to it.
How does it get 4.3 star average rating if it's that bad?

Also, forget the movie exists, or forget that you watched it already.

Yup! this as #1 and The Martian #2, for Audiobook ranking specifically (IMO obviously). Incredible voice acting with an incredible book with a writing style that is well suited to audiobooks - first person narrative exclusively (or almost exclusively) with the only protagonist. I'm not sure I'd ever consider reading either book, with the quality of the audiobook. It's not just about being lazy, not wanting to read. It's actually that good.

That said, if you're a reader and are considering - just buy it. It's reeeeeeeeally good. I'm not sure I buy the background plot about why the world in the book is the way it is (especially regarding energy), but I can look the other way considering how incredible the rest of the writing is. Don't worry, this isn't a spoiler.

Subjective, of course. For me: Muddled storyline - no surprise, they always do this. But the things that really bothered me: The main character is supposed to be a dorky kid that didn't have any friends, someone that no one would look at twice. Casting that little pretty boy in the role undercut the underdog element of the protagonist, for those of us that weren't 'cool' in school. And they cut out so much of the Gen X pop culture - one of the really special things about the book for those of us that grew up in roughly the same era as the author. And so much depth was lost in his adventures and internal thought process. I had to try really hard to force myself to finish it. I was so very disappointed, I tried to like it... RP1 is easily top 5 books overall for me, but the movie is probably closer to top 5 worst movie than top 5 best.

I think it's also the stark comparison to the combination of excellent writing of the author (rather than the screenwriter that edited it) and Will Wheaton's on-point voice acting. Simple excellent. The movie might just be 'meh'? But standing next to the audiobook and the original book itself - it's polished garbage to me, not made by someone who loves the book and wanted to do it justice. Just a money grab based on marketing.
