I have this. I recommend also buying a spare battery, as the rechargeable battery's charge lasts about a month and the battery takes several hours to recharge. It's easier and ensures continuous availability to have a spare battery charged and ready to go.
Yeah, agreed. I moved away from myQ for garage door opener with an open source solution and much happier. I'd advise against getting locked into this ecosystem which wants to charge you monthly, unless you need the specific features. I would think most people would be better off with a surveillance camera system (ring, reolink, eufy, etc.) and a dumb keypad if you want to see who is opening your door.
Seems like an awful product. The non video key pads last for years

No way in hell I'm recharging this all the time.

The one I've heard recommended often is ratgdo, there are some options that are recommended like: Meross, Shelly, etc. I personally use a z-wave multi relay (Zooz Zen16) because I'm using Home Assistant and z-wave in my home. They're not all open source but some good options for varying skill/nerd levels, with some good wifi options on Amazon, zigbee, z-wave and ESPHome options.

Edit: I used the myQ previously for their cloud garage door openers for both of my doors. The setup was fairly easy but they kept dropping off my wifi and about a year ago they shut down their API to allow 3rd party solutions to integrate (like HomeAssistant). A lot of folks jumped ship at that time. I went over to a new solution and never looked back.

Subscription only if you want video recordings, motion detection and people access it to open your garage. I only use it to check on my garage in case I forgot to close it and to open the garage. I bought this at $99 two years ago.

Ok thanks. I'll continue passing on this then. I have the myq openers so i already have a way to check garage status. Dont feel the need to pay for subscription just to see who opens from the keypad.

Yes they make a kit you can buy, or there are third party ones.

You can look at the camera live without a subscription. Just does not record or have access to additional settings.

going to give it a try. My key pad stopped working a little while back anyways, so I am in the market for a new one. looks like they make a kit to hardwire the battery which I might consider in a bit.

Stopped using myq products once they went subscription based and also wanted to charge a yearly fee to have it work with a tesla. If that's the route they are going, no thanks.

Meross solved all my issues and works perfect with homekit.
