Just an FYI that lithium is not recommended for most cold applications. Any emergency equipment, like an avalanche beacon, should be using alkaline.

It's not about rechargeable. It's about the potential for a sudden loss of power that lithium can experience in sub-zero temperatures.
I've had a lot of misinformation drilled into my head, sometimes because of someone's anecdotal experience or old data. The voltage curves and usable mAH look significantly better with lithium over alkaline at 0 C and -20 C. If my life depends on it, I would go with lithium in the cold.
That's the good and bad with lithium. Voltage is stable until it suddenly drops off at the end. That comes sooner in the cold. I can see how that would be a problem in certain situations. However, alkaline performance is shockingly bad in the first place when it is really cold.
Also, if you have instruments that use voltage to determine how much power you have left, and the power meter is based on alkaline curves, you can be fooled into thinking you have a full charge with lithium, when in reality it's about to die.
