The unspent credits disappear when you unsubscribe, but they bank month-to-month while you're a subscriber. And the audiobooks you buy with those credits stay on your account after you drop your subscription.

Audible's selection is so much bigger than Libby and Hoopla, etc. and you get to keep the audiobooks even after you cancel the membership. There are many audiobooks that are exclusive to Audible, too, so you should definitely check it out.

I will suggest that you use the Audible app only for listening as it's not the best on mobile for browsing and reading reviews. At least it never has been on any of my iPhones. Use the website for everything else. One other tip, if you click preview to listen to a sample on a title's page it will start at the beginning of the book, which of course might not give you any example of character's voices especially if there's a dedication or author's note. But if you click on the author's name or series name then listen to the sample on that list page, if you're lucky you'll get a narration sample in the middle of a random chapter where hopefully you'll hear some dialogue between main characters.

I'm starting to feel like they don't want to give me free audiobooks anymore 🙃

I have never, in all my years, tried audible! 😬 I use a lot of audiobook services free through the library, though... and there's a new book I desperately want to read! I should try it.

If you're willing to pay $0.99 a month for three months I seem to be able to do that over and over and over : )

Thanks for the heads up! I've been trying the $.99 per month sales too but nothing has worked for me in quite a while. I typically spend actual money during the member only sales too so it's not like I ONLY take advantage of the freebies

Not always for me. If I don't have a sub, I always click on the promos here and when they pop up on social media sites.

I've done a lot of the promos though. I used to get them a couple of times a year, but I think it's more like once a year. Kindle Unlimited promos have been less frequent for me too. Even when I pay for a month or two, it's rare to get an super-discounted offer to continue (I think Audible normally offers me a few more months at half-price, but not this time).

I barely listen to the free stuff (unless I have it when doing a road trip), I usually just redeem the credits and some super-cheap sales, getting stuff so that when I do want to listen, I've already got books lined up.

I did get the last 99¢ one three months ago (my 3 months just ended a day or two ago) though.

Unsurprisingly, I was not able to do this one.

Last time, I was able to get this after about a month cancelled. Sadly, not this time. Maybe next go-around.

"Sorry—we couldn't apply this offer, but you can still sign up for membership."

To be fair my most recent subscription expired I think last week.

Worked, after not working for at least a year. Pre-ordered Dan Brown's Secret of Secrets [amazon.com]. Free is good!

If we cancel the monthly membership, how do you access the books you purchased?

They are still in your library. You still have an account, you just cancel your premium membership.
