thats why i always save 1c of my points, just in case
The problem with just applying your CB to your balance automatically is you give up that dry powder for when a big Discover deal drops. It'll happen eventually - in the meantime I'll keep hoarding.

Discover just got bought by Capital one. Even less chance of it happening.
Lowes gcs are regularly 10-15% off. You're only saving something like 30% but waiting years and years for that one chance?
What if they put limits? You can only buy $100 worth, or it sells out fast and you miss it?
