I have one of these and I have some opinions. It's almost a perfect physical clone of the 35XXPro, many think it's actually made by anbernic and just branded differently but they have what I'm pretty sure is a reskined ARK OS 2.0. Which is a great OS, very robust lots of functionality. I think for someone on a very tight budget this is a really great choice. The direct competitor is the R36s. For a similar price you can get an R36s with a 128GB card with 21,000 games and they have a really good selection of games on the R36s too including the first party nintendo titles such as Mario Kart, super mario brothers, zelda etc., but the R36s definately is a cheaper build quality. The R36s is perfectly functional but it's not at the level of say an anbernic device or the G350. The G350 comes with a 64gb card and only 4k games and the selection is really crappy. But if you're willing to do the work of downloading your own games and going down the route of making your own curated SD card you'll get a MUCH better quality device. It has good build quality, great feeling face buttons and shoulder buttons and dpad. (You REALLY need to buy a quality SD card for any of these devices, even anbernic devices, because the SD cards they come with are extremely low quality and become corrupt very easily).

Rumors for a long time that these were actually made by Anbernic. Spend a little more and get the Anbernic RG 35XXPro if this is the form factor and controller layout you want. Those have a different CPU and more OS choices are supported (like Knulli). Whatever you do, swap the microSD cards that are bundled with any of these things. They're garbage.

I still don't understand the hype of this model. How is it better than an r36s? Buttons a little better? Still no wifi or bt. Still the cheaper rk3326.
Regardless, a good price at $28.

I got two of these BatleXP and it has a thank you card from "Anbernic", but I don't think I see that anywhere else on the packaging or console.
Do you know how I would find out what "compatible" model this would be if I want to setup ArkOS?

It's compatible.
ArkOS actually stands for Another Rockchip Operating system.

Spend a little more for a RG35XX Pro? You mean double?

Also, the Kioxia microsd cards included with these BatleXP's and other Anbernic devices actually have a very good reputation and don't really need to be replaced.

Ironic how the R36S now comes bundled w/ ArkOS since it never used to before; from what I recall, the microSD card had some generic, lackluster distro of Linux w/ a garbage UI installed on it. When I purchased my R36S in March of last year (from a post on Slickdeals), I paid around $35 in total for mine, and the microSD card it came w/ was mediocre at best (regarding its durability quality and included content) so I agree that taking the time to curate your own content on a separate microSD (from a reputable brand) is a far more favorable route to take. However, in an effort to preserve the original settings, I did clone an image of the original microSD card and saved it for restoration purposes 😉.
